[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1694109] [NEW] X server freezes with all NVIDIA open source driver releases (340.102, 375.66, 381.22)

2017-05-28 Thread A K Singh
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I have Dell XPX L502X with Nvidia GT 540M card i.e. 6 years old hardware
whose driver is still not working, this is amazing :(

The X server freezes with all NVIDIA open source driver releases
(340.102, 375.66, 381.22). This report is for NVIDIA driver version
340.102.

X Server freezes at any time keyboard and mouse hangs and last resort
used to be to power down with power key forcefully which may destroy HDD
also :(

I even tried proprietary NVIDIA drivers also but they had shown the same
behaviour.

Without the NVIDIA drivers in place I can't use CUDA toolkit.

Please let me know if someone need any further info apart from attached file.
Thanks

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1382792] Re: gedit crashes when zeitgeist plugin is disabled

2015-07-24 Thread k singh
I don't know how to apply patch.

Have found workaround for this bug.

I go to "system settings" in ubuntu 14.04 -->"security and privacy" and
disable all.

Then i open gedit and disable the zeitgeist plugin and close gedit

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1382805] [NEW] tomboy notes creates duplicate notes with the same title

2014-10-18 Thread k singh
Public bug reported:

I am using ubuntu 14.04 and tomboy 1.15.4. Over a period of time(since
2006) I have been upgrading ubuntu and tomboy notes and had accumulated
a large number of .note files-- some moved over from previous
installations of ubuntu as i learnt to use ubuntu and save the data.
Recently i tried to backup the notes to plain text or html and was not
successful as the application created some folders but stopped in
between creating some files/subfolders (for notebooks) or none at all--
giving an unknown error. So i copied all the .note files in
~/.local/share/tomboy to a single text file as backup. Then quit tomboy
notes and deleted all the .note files in the folder. After doing a grep
search on the text file for , i came across multiple notes with
the same name--which may be the cause of the inability to backup/export
to html or plain text--and was giving an unknown error. It could also be
the reason why tomboy notes crashes or closes unexpectedly. Now i am
painfully trying to rebuild the entire data as it was structured earlier
--hopefully a lot of junk will be cleaned up.

Why Tomboy notes is not doing strict checks during creation of new
node/note or during the process of replacing/changing the name of an old
node/note needs to be looked into. Due to multiple notes with the same
name, indexing fails and the program crashes. Also since the filename of
the .note files is not human friendly and has no correlation with the
title of the note, when previously saved .note files are merged into the
same directory as the new .note files, there is a possibility that same
title notes are introduced mistakenly without being noticed by the
application which could be causing the unexpected problems.

So there are 3 processes by which same title notes are coming into being
1 During creation of new notes -because of not being able to cover all the
possibilities--maybe unlikely
2 During updation/renaming of older notes during usual process of editing and
use
3 during saving or backing up from previous versions or folders of different
computers--synchronisation problems--or merging problems etc

** Affects: tomboy (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1382792] Re: gedit crashes when zeitgeist plugin is disabled

2014-10-18 Thread k singh
Disabling some other plugins like multi edit, latex , join-split lines, synctex
etc solved the problem of crash/unexpected closure of gedit--seems like these
newly enabled/installed plugins were causing the problem and may not be
compatible with each other or buggy. There needs to be some sort of rating for
them--whether they are alpha, beta or fully tested.
Zeitgeist plugin can now be enabled/disabled without crashing/unexpected
closure of the gedit application

The application should mention size limit of a note --it becomes very
slow or crashes with large notes or crashes with large number of notes--
upper limits for number of notes should also be mentioned. Ubuntu 10.04,
Tomboy 1.15.4.

are part of a notebook) to HTML or plain text. Plain text export option

The plug in threw an error message nearly every time, suggesting my file name
"is not a folder"> I checked. The file name was the note title with .html
added. The html file was saved correctly. Still the pesky error message.
Workaround is simply to add a colon to the end of the note title.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 703250] Re: Tomboy doesn't remember window position & size

2014-10-18 Thread k singh
Tomboy note windows appear as standard size whenever reopened--without
remembering their last position or window size. Using Ubuntu 14.04,
tomboy 1.15.4. This bug appeared resolved earlier but has re-surfaced in
the present versions.

Title:
Tomboy doesn't remember window position & size

Status in “tomboy” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: tomboy

  Hello,

I'm using Tomboy 1.5.2 both on Maverick (laptop) and Natty alpha
(desktop computer) with Ubuntu One synchronization.

It works very well except one thing : when I move a note on a precise
part of the screen (example: on bottom right), after closing and
restarting Tomboy, note comes back at top left corner of screen.

Other problem regarding window size, sometimes length and width of
note are not saved, and reopening it will place note in top left, size
  default little square.

Also, when I want a note being always maximized, it is not remembered
by Tomboy. If I just close the note and reopen it, it is well
maximized, but if I close Tomboy, launch it and open note, it takes
again the original size, it's not maximized.

One way to bypass this is to enlarge the note to take all screen place
(as if it was maximized), but it's not fully expected behavior.

  Thanks for your help.

  Xavier

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 626582] Re: Can't open transferred .notes files in Ubuntu or Windows

2014-10-18 Thread k singh
There is no way to associate .note files with Tomboy as it is not listed
in the set of applications under Nautilus. Gnote is listed as an
application under Nautilus but after associating .note files with it, it
also does not open them. The only workaround is to move the .note files
to ~/.local/share/tomboy and then start Tomboy.

Can't open transferred .notes files in Ubuntu or Windows

Status in “tomboy” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: tomboy

I recently had to revert to Windows after a couple of years running
Ubuntu. I understood that I could transfer my tomboy notes by simply
backing up the the .notes files, installing Tomboy on Windows, and
copying the notes files into the Windows Tomboy directory
  (C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\tomboy\notes). See
  http://www.linickx.com/archives/790/tomboy-on-windows. However, the
notes do not appear when I open Tomboy, nor do they open when I double
  click them.

I tried to get around the problem by installing Ubuntu 10.04 in Vbox,
but the same thing happens there (Tomboy does not recognize notes I
  paste into /home/bruce/.local/share/tomboy).

I was able to recover text of a couple of key notes using Firefox, but
  that is clumsy and tedious.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

  Tomboy 1.2.1 (Ubuntu), 1.2.2 (Windows)
Ubuntu 10.04 in Windows 7 Virtual Box

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 886742] Re: links are not completed to a note if a shorter title exists

2014-10-18 Thread k singh
My workaround was to change the names of the links a bit so that there are no
blank spaces.
eg. if there were 2 links with similar substrings
"testing link 1" and "testing link"

i would rename the first link to "testinglink1" so that it would remain
unique

  To reproduce:

1. create a new note, titled "testing new note"
2. create a new note, titled "testing new note 2"

notes, by typing their names

  Expected behaviour:
Links are made to both notes

  Actual behaviour:
Two links are made to the "testing new note" note. The "2" is ignored.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1071394] Re: Tomboy not saving notes

2014-10-18 Thread k singh
Tomboy started acting funny as reported. But the problem went away. It
does not seem to be there now. I am using ubuntu 14.04, tomboy 1.15.04.
It may have been in earlier versions of tomboy, ubuntu. I experienced it
for some time but then stopped using tomboy for a period of time and
when i restarted using it, somehow the problem never reoccured.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) open an existing note
  2) edit note
  3) reboot computer
  4) open note and find changes are not saved

It appears that I can still create new notes but changes to existing
  notes aren't changed.

On Ubuntu 12.04 and and Tomboy 1.10.1.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 983998] Re: Unknown error when exporting all notes

2014-10-18 Thread k singh
I use ubuntu 14.04 and tomboy 1.15.4. I can't export ANY note to plain
text but i can export to HTML. Latex export plugin somehow works but i
don't really know whether the whole data is exported as it saves to a
.tex file. I had 2400 plus notes and a few notebooks made over a period
of time. Earlier I could export some of the notes and some notebooks in
folders. They used to appear as .html files. But then tomboy stopped
working in exporting notes and now gives an UNKNOWN error everytime. It
creates folders/subfolders but there are no files in them--only one or
two subfolders with the names of the notebooks.

I backed up all the notes into a single txt file and deleted all the
notes from ~/.local/share/tomboy to see if the problem goes away. Then i
created a few notes linked to each other. The EXPORT to plaintext
PLUGIN still does not work and gives UNKNOWN error. I enabled and
disabled and re-enabled the ADDINs/plugins but export does not work.

If the export to plain text plugin is faulty or not compatible with the
export to html plugin if both are enabled at the same time, the buggy
one should not be allowed to be enabled by the system. When i started
testing the plugins, HTML export addin was enabled and Plain text addin
was disabled-- the unknown error still came. then i disabled the HTML
export addin, and enabled the Plain text plugin--still the unknown error
came. Both were enabled--still the unknown error came. Then i backup up
all the notes to a single text file and deleted all the notes in the
.local/share/tomboy folder and quit tomboy and then restarted it. Tomboy
still showed the earlier notes which was surprising. Only when i
rebooted, the tomboy cache was cleared and no notes showed up. Then i
recreated some notes and tried to export. Still the unknown error came
--with the Plain text export plugin. After the Plain text export plugin
was DISABLED and the HTML export plugin enabled, i was able to export
the notes to htnl files in a folder.

It is unnerving to see such a major problem in this wonderful application
software. Also have observed several bugs reported here at launchpad.net
Unexpected crashes, cannot write to disk --disk full error(when disk space
low), lost notes, links to notes with shortest names only highlighted etc but
there are workarounds for some of them which i have learnt over time.

Which one is the question. I deleted the notes that where not exported and

export worked.

Maybe it has something to do with links?
