[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2062330] Re: Chromium fails to start with "invalid home directory"

2024-04-19 Thread macho
For (1), I do have encrypted home directory. Although this is probably
less relevant, I also use the second user I created (i.e. I'm UID 1001
and I don't really use the UID 1000 user)

For (2) and (3) (i.e. system-packages-doc) I'm not sure how to gather
the info you need. Do I need to revert snapd? How do I tell what
chromium interfaces are connected?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2017804] [NEW] "Don't show this message again" button has no effect

2023-04-26 Thread macho
Public bug reported:

Since my upgrade to Ubuntu 23.04 I get annoying popups I've never seen
before, especially when waking the computer from suspend, telling me

the dialogs from appearing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926028] [NEW] "About this computer" reports 20.04 instead of 20.10

2021-04-24 Thread macho
Public bug reported:

Top-right-widget >> About This Computer

pops up a window titled "Details" whose main contents report "ubuntu

This caused me some confusion, since I couldn't figure out for some time
why the Software Updater app was not offering version upgrades, despite
that I had it configured to do so. I started to become suspicious based
on the giant gorilla art all over my desktop, and it indeed turns out
I'm already running 20.10:

Title:
"About this computer" reports 20.04 instead of 20.10

Status in unity-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Top-right-widget >> About This Computer

pops up a window titled "Details" whose main contents report "ubuntu

This caused me some confusion, since I couldn't figure out for some
time why the Software Updater app was not offering version upgrades,
despite that I had it configured to do so. I started to become
suspicious based on the giant gorilla art all over my desktop, and it
indeed turns out I'm already running 20.10:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1656868] Re: Won't start / crashes

2018-06-27 Thread macho
Blast from the past! Clearly I must have found a workaround to this
problem, since I have no memory of filing this bug, and am now on 18.04.
Feel free to close this!

I have several add-ons installed, so I tried:
  $ mv ~/.mozilla/firefox ~/.mozilla/firefox.old

I submitted a bug report through the crash window.

I'm unfortunately not sophisticated enough to use the "--debug" flag.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1245805] Re: Crash with stacktrace, error code 30 in validate_encryption_settings

2016-01-03 Thread macho
I'm still getting this crash on Ubuntu 15.10 with duplicity 0.7.02.

My initial full backup seemed to be stalled (destination stopped
growing), so I did ^C and restarted:

# duplicity --full-if-older-than 2W --no-encryption --exclude-other-filesystems
$home_source $home_target
Local and Remote metadata are synchronized, no sync needed.
Last full backup left a partial set, restarting.
Last full backup date: Sat Jan 2 02:14:14 2016
RESTART: Volumes 82 to 525 failed to upload before termination.
 Restarting backup at volume 82.

I'll try a fresh full backup, but I fear it will stall and/or crash
again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1520426] [NEW] Improve animation adding icon to launcher

2015-11-26 Thread macho
Public bug reported:

Feature request:

When you install a new application, a little animation follows in which
the icon flies from the software centre window into the launcher. But it
is a very basic and unbecoming animation. I think it could be improved
by by making it less linear in one (or preferably several) of the
following ways:

* varying the speed at which it moves
* varying the path through which it travels (e.g. spiral, erratic, etc.)
* varying the icon size (start huge and shrink down to size as it moves, or
grow and then shrink)
* begin transparent and then become progressively more opaque as it moves

and so on ...

** Affects: software-center (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1378365] [NEW] Adopt standard Ctrl+Q key combination over current Alt+X

2014-10-07 Thread macho
Public bug reported:

To conform to standard Ubuntu practice, I believe that the Torrent
Exit menu item should be associated with the Ctrl+Q key combination
rather than Alt+X, as it is currently. The vast majority of Ubuntu apps
associate “Quit” with Ctrl+Q, but even those that instead include an
“Exit” option (e.g. LibreOffice) still associate that option with
Ctrl+Q.

Ideally “Exit” would be renamed to “Quit” for consistency, but even
failing that change, I believe that Ctrl+Q should be preferred over the
idiosyncratic Alt+X.

Thank you!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1313250] Re: Shortcut key Ctrl+L no longer sets cursor to page selector in 3.10.3

Hi Stéphane. Yes, evince 3.10.3-0ubuntu10.1 works perfectly!

Thanks so much. You have no idea how much this pleases someone as fussy
as me.

Shortcut key Ctrl+L no longer sets cursor to page selector in 3.10.3

Status in “evince” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  * Impact
Ctrl+L stopped working (should focus the page number box)

  * Test case:
  - open a document in evince, press ctrl+L, see if the page number box is
selected

  * Regression potential:
check that keybindings work as they should

  ---

In previous versions of evince, when I pressed Ctrl+L the cursor focus would
be set to the page number box. It made it extremely convenient to navigate
documents. Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04 / evince 3.10.3, this seems no
longer to work. Would be great to get the functionality back. Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 932900] Re: Unity freeze, crashes when trying to restart - GPU lockup with IPEHR: 0x7a000002

2012-11-29 Thread Maik Macho
I do not know if it will help either, but replacing sna with uxa in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf ( or creating a new file with these contents:

Section Device
Identifier intel
Driver intel
Option AccelMethod uxa
EndSection

) will at least make gnome-shell / unity / ... run. The problem:
graphics problems (transparency, smoothing, performance, ...).

My graphics card is defined as Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset
Family in Windows, as Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset x86/MMX/SSE2
in the Settings and yells about i915 hangs in dmesg on boot-time when
running with SNA.

I would like if there will be a fix for that without changing the
AccelMethod option.
