Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am using firefox on ubuntu 12.04 and the current installed binary is
  firefox_38.0+build3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1_amd64.deb. STarting firefox from
the dash fails and I get the error message:

  XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /usr/lib/firefox/libxul.so:
/usr/lib/firefox/libxul.so: cannot open shared object file: Timer expired
  Couldn't load XPCOM.

when attempting to start from the command line. I have not done
anything recently other than run apt-get dist-upgrade and do not know
  what could be causing this.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1196196] Re: [background]: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast()

2013-10-21 Thread markb
It says above that this bug was fixed in gnome-control-center
1:3.6.3-0ubuntu31 but I cleanly installed Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 today with
gnome-control-center 1:3.8.3-0ubuntu1~saucy2 and it still crashes as
soon as I try to change the background. I see the following segfault
each time in my syslog:

2013-10-21 Thread markb
Tim, in the process of doing that I discovered that this problem seems
to be not directly due to gnome-control-center so I won't raise a bug on
the crash. I will append a comment on my Ubuntu GNOME list post which
presumably is what pointed you here.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1175632] Re: transmission forgets path configuration and creates strange directories

2013-06-19 Thread markb
I'm using Ubuntu 13.04 x64 with stock transmission 2.77-0ubuntu1 and see
this bug. It is repeatable. Just rm -rf ~/.config/transmission to set
default settings, start transmission, e.g. set a save to location,
restart transmission, and you will see it forgets the setting (and
others). Like the OP here I have also been getting ~/en-AU.UTF-8 and
other hieroglyphic named folders in my home area. This is a bad bug
making transmission awful to use.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1131263] Re: Gwibber does not add Facebook account, external browser says Success.

2013-02-21 Thread markb
I'll just point that I have been using gwibber with Facebook fine since
Ubuntu 12.10 was released (although only after fixing
http://ubuntumisr.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/fix-facebook-not-working-with-
gwibber.html). This new bug only started happening a day or so ago. I
started getting random web page popups simply containing the text
Success until I tracked down the problem was due to gwibber and then I
found this bug. Presumably FB have changed the way their authentication
works.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 928438] Re: LibreOffice doesn't have window title or buttons in Unity

2012-02-08 Thread markb
Seems to be initiated when jumping between full screen apps,
particularly to/from nautilus. When it happens, Libreoffice also
disappears from the alt-tab list and, if minimised, also from the expo
(ctrl-w) view. So it completely disappears from view and access from
Unity when minimised. However, if you close all other apps then start a
new app then Libreoffice springs back into view.

I originally had this problem with Libreoffice 1:3.4.5 from the ppa so I
purged it back to the standard 1:3.4.4 packages but find the problem
still exists.

This does not happen every time the program is launched. It seems that
this occurs when directly opening a file (e.g. double clicking a file

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 881955] Re: System monitor freezes up when switching to Processes tab

2011-11-13 Thread markb
I am running Oneiric x32 with nvidia driver and also get this problem
when I enable xorg-edgers ppa. Purging that ppa removes the problem.
Does not happen on my intel video laptop with same ppa enabled so seems
xorg-edgers + nvidia (290.06) related?

System monitor lock up is repeatable but other GTK apps lock up also,
e.g. transmission. When it locks up in transmission sometimes my entire
gnome-shell session locks up and I must kill it from a console.

2011-11-13 Thread markb
Not sure if helpful but further to my above comment I find that gnome-
system-monitor locks up in a futex() call:

stat64(/proc/2427, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0555, st_size=0, ...}) = 0

close(14) = 0
futex(0xb62c8b64, FUTEX_WAKE_PRIVATE, 2147483647) = 0

Sits on last line above at 100% cpu.

If I run transmission-gtk under strace then it won't fail but if I run
it normally and then attach strace after it locks up, then it is also
sitting on a futex() call at 100% cpu (although in this case it also
hangs my gnome-shell session).

For gnome-shell users that want a workaround for this bug but want to
preserve global menus in Unity then perhaps a better solution is to
create a file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/81ubuntu-menu-proxy with the single

  Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

If you click on the global menus the View-Show MenuBar and (un)check
it, it won't work, the menu will stay at the 'global menus panel' or
whatever it is. In my opinion this option shouldn't exist now,
considering that global menus are the future, and also considering
that a global menu has the advantage not to keep its own space on the
  screen :)

  WORKAROUND:
  1. sudo apt-get purge appmenu-gtk appmenu-gtk3
  2. Logout
  3. Login
