There is a similar issue with telegram (only when installed through apt get)

marvin@X1-18:~$ telegram-desktop
telegram-desktop: error while loading shared libraries: libQt5Network.so.5:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Could be an issue during ubuntu install?

Hi

Thank you very much

I had to reinstall all the dependancies... Now its running with minor
complaints

marvin@X1-18:~$ sudo gparted
Unit -.mount does not exist, proceeding anyway.
Gtk-Message: 10:49:55.365: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"

I think there was something that went wrong during the install of ubuntu
18.04

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1762595] Re: Thunar incorrectly thinks USB storage device hasn't finished ejecting

This issue is still affecting my both operating systems, Ubuntu 20.04
and Ubuntu Studio 20. What should I do to fix it?

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * This bug affects Thunar, and likely other file managers relying on
  udisks2.

   * When ejecting a USB disk, the disk ejects normally. However, Thunar
does not detect that it was successfully ejected.

   * The "Writing data to device" notification will be displayed for
  some time.

   * Eventually, Thunar pops up an error dialog saying 'Failed to eject
  "". Timeout was reached.'

   * Thunar will sometimes also exit at this point.

   * It has been determined that the upstream patch included in this
  upload resolves this error.

  [Test Case]

   1. Mount a partition of a USB hard disk or flash drive.

   2. Using the eject button in the Thunar window sidebar, eject the
mounted partition of the USB HDD.

   3. The disk will spin down and eject normally. The "Writing data to
device" notification will be displayed until an error dialog saying
'Failed to eject "". Timeout was reached.'

  [Regression Potential]

   * Regression potential is very minimal. The patch is from upstream
gvfs, contains a single line change, and applies only to the drive
  stopping event.

  [Original Report]

  $ lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
  Release: 18.04

  $ apt-cache policy thunar
  thunar:
Installed: 1.6.15-0ubuntu1
Candidate: 1.6.15-0ubuntu1
Version table:
   *** 1.6.15-0ubuntu1 500
  500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Mount a partition of a USB harddisk

  2) Using the eject button in the Thunar window sidebar, eject the
mounted partition of the USB HDD.

  3) After the USB HDD is ejected and spins down, unplug it
  .

At (2), the disk ejects normally. But Thunar thinks it hasn't been
ejected and is still trying to eject. The "Writing data to device"
notification continues to display. Eventually, Thunar pops up an error
dialog saying 'Failed to eject "". Timeout was
reached.' Sometimes Thunar will exit after this.

Same thing happens with some USB flash drives, so the bug can also be
  tested with a pendrive.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 879456] Re: Typeahead functionality for nautilus is broken

2011-10-30 Thread Marvin
I can confirm the backspace problem. Besides that if you type the name of a
folder and then press enter when the correct folder is selected, then the
typeahead text-field does not disappear and its contents are not being cleared.
So for example if I want to navigate to /usr/share (from /) then I normally do:
- type "us" so that "usr" gets selected
- press enter
- type "sh" so that "share" gets selected
- press enter

What now happens:
- I type "us" so that "usr" gets selected
- I press enter
- I'm in /usr/ but the type ahead text-field is still there and still contains
"us"

The funny thing is that I cannot clear the text-field using backspace
since that brings me to the parent directory.

I'm using a 32 bit version of Ubuntu and did not upgrade but a fresh
installation. However my home directory has been used in Ubuntu 10.10.

  Description: Ubuntu 11.10
  Release: 11.10

Installed: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1
Candidate: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1

However the person that was assigned to that bug told me to file a new one
because supposedly it is a different bug.
I installed the nautilus 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1 package from ubuntu proposed and
all packages related and I still experience the following behavior:

  Expected behavior:

  - Open nautilus in ANY folder.
  - Start typing name of folder/file.
  - Nautilus selects folders/file matching as you type (one file at a time
matching what is in the search/typeahead box).
  - Type backspace
  - Deletes the last character typed in search/typeahead box

  Actual Behavior

  - Open nautilus in ANY folder.
  - Start typing the name of a folder/file.
  - Sometimes the search box opens and sometimes it does not. (BUG)
  - If it does open, after a letter or two the search box disappears. (BUG)
  - If you change folders sometimes the box reappears as you start typing other
times it disappears. (BUG)
  - If the box re-appears typing in Back-space does not delete the text present
in the box, instead it navigates backwards (Unexpected behavior)
  - If it disappears It does not re-appear until you close and re-open
nautilus. (BUG)

This happens in ALL views (Icon, List, Compact) with or without status
bar enabled (Some suggested that the status bar fixes this, it does
  not).

The newly released packages (nautilus* 3.2.1) DO NOT fix this bug.

I am on Ubuntu 11.10 64Bit Using Gnome 3.2 and Gnome Shell.
Upgraded to this ubuntu since 10.04

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 772777] Re: Title bar of window does not update properly

2011-11-20 Thread Marvin
I also experience this very annoying problem with many applications. For
example with "Image viewer", when I go to the next image the title bar still
contains the file name of the first opened image. If the window is maximized
then the window titles are properly updated.
I also ran xwininfo for a window for which the title bar did not change.
xwininfo gives the new (correct) value of the window title.

Come on guys why is there no activity around this bug? We are talking
about functionality that you even may expect from a window manager of 15

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1294762] Re: Blur effect on whole screen

2014-03-28 Thread Marvin Janosch
Nouveau still seems no to support the GTS 250M and only runs in a 640sh
resolution and every thing seems to be software rendered. I can't
clearly state if the blur effect still applies due to the over all low
resolution, but I think the described problem isn't applying in this
case.

Furthermore the problem comes in sporadically under the proprietary
drivers. I couldn't find the trigger for the wrong display behavior.

Thought on something like that but seem to missed that one.

Disabling FXAA in the Nvidia driver fixes the problem (thanks Andrzej)
but still, we know now Nvidia's FXAA is buggy.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1078355] [NEW] Can't connect to Verizon 4g MiFi network

2012-11-13 Thread Marvin Simms
Public bug reported:

Continuation with Dell Lattitude D600 initial setup.

Lubuntu 12.04 did install (thank you) but would not configure the
network and indicated that I need a piece of non-free firmware
(tigon/tg3_tso.bin). Perhaps one of both is these issues are
contributing to the next problem I encountered.

I have a Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter(wnda3100v2) I was
hoping to use to wifi enable this laptop that is otherwise not wifi
ready. From everything I read however, it seems this card will not work
with Linux. I've tried installing the software with no success. Also,
Ubuntu doesn't acknowledge anything when I plug the card into a USB
port. Unless someone can help with this(my preferred choice), I do have
another alternative that holds some promise..

I also have a dongle that claims to work with a Linux OS. I can get the
software from CD to PC and unzipped but can't confirm it is being
setup/installed. When I plug in the dongle, Ubuntu recognizes there is
a wireless connection available. In this case, it happens to be my
Verizon 4G lte MiFi that's being detected but I assume if I can make
this password protected connection then any free wifi should work. I
think there is still a compatability or configuration problem that I
can't get passed. I can't get authenticated and I'm very familier with
the password for my MiFi card. It's not that the authentication fails
but keeps cycling and asking me to input the password again, never
connecting.

** Affects: gnome-nettool (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

2012-11-13 Thread Marvin Simms
There's a long string of exchanges in launchpad on this issue. Warren
Hill and others tried to help until exhausting his/their suggestions.
Thanks to everyone for the assistance. I'll keep poking from my end and
hope the bug report yields a solution.

one is gone and all programms are Closed.

I searched /var/log for details.

I reproduced the bug to copy all informations from the /var/log/syslog

Left handed mouse settings no longer working after system update

Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  1) Release info: Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic)

  2) GNOME 2.27.91

  3) Desription: As of this morning, after updating my system using the
update manager, my mouse switched from being lefthanded to a
  righthanded one.

Tried to resolve this using the System>Preferences>Mouse menu
(process: gnome-mouse-properties), but in the settings the lefthanded
mouse was already checked. Switching back and forth and even a restart
in between did not change the mouse to become lefthanded again

  4) Mouse switched from lefthanded to righthanded (after system update
using the update manager), and could not be reset to lefthanded using
  System>Preferences>Mouse menu

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1736222] Re: speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

2021-11-23 Thread Marvin Sequera
Same problem Here using ubuntu 20.04 on a ryzen 4800h with 1650ti
laptop, I have use this machine over a year and last week, the problem
starts to show. Fix with deleting seech-dispatcher.

You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

Title:
  speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

Status in speech-dispatcher package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
So, a brand new computer running Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS.
In hardinfo summary, my audio adapters are
  • HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDMI
  • HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
  • HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
In detail: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor HD Audio
Controller (rev 06)
  Memory 16kb (non-prefetchable), snd_hda_intel

As soon as I load a website in Firefox that utilizes speech-dispatcher
(fimfiction.net) all sounds get distorted, whether I click a paragraph
for TTS reading or not. The problem seems to go away if I don't use
the site after a while. When I close down Firefox the problem still
lingers a bit, but maybe not as long. One thing I did which seemed
faster was close down everything, then load what I wanted to listen to
(Skype, Discord), and if it still persisted I would go into "Sound
Settings" and after a few blinks in that window the sound is normal
  again.

While the site is open, according to "Sound Settings" (from the
speaker icon menu) and Pulse Audio Volume Controller (pavu) there are
4 copies of this package. Muting them did not help the problem, but
moving one of them, and a very specific one, from the "Built-in Audio
Analog Stereo" to something else like HDA NVidia (HDMI 3) seems to be
  a workaround.

Just so you know, I do not use the HDMI cable for sound, but instead
use the "headphones" jack. If you need any more details, I'll try to
  provide them.

  /Edward
