I have the same problem with my company's email which uses the Rackspace
Outlook 2016 Exchange service. Rackspace told me that they cannot change
the DH key to a value higher than 1024 bits (which I don't believe) and
they suggested that instead the company upgrades to some Office 365
service which supports a higher DH key size. So, at this moment I cannot
use my company's Exchange E-mail from Evolution as I could in the past.

This bug is not a duplicate of 1869635. This package should always be
installed because it is used by the other gnome shell extensions
including those the user may add manually in the future.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1869637] [NEW] hidden windows appear as opened after clicking the "Show Applications" button twice

2020-03-29 Thread Panos Asproulis
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce this problem:

1. Click on the Ubuntu Dock to open any application e.g. Nautilus.
2. A window with the contents of this application appears.
3. Click the (-) hide button of the window. The window hides from the desktop.
4. Click the "Show Applications" button of the Ubuntu Dock.
5. After the list of available applications appears click the same button
again. The system returns back to the desktop view.
6. Notice that the previously hidden window now appears as open on the desktop.
However, it is only rendered and it is not functional. One cannot click on this
window to hide it again, move it to another location or use the application
associated with it. The only way to return to normal is to click the icon of
this application on the Ubuntu Dock and in this case the window opens properly
i.e. it is rendered again but this time it can be used.

Expected behaviour:

After step (5) one should return to the desktop with the window of the
opened application still hidden.

Note that if several applications have been opened and their windows
hidden then after operation (5) all previously hidden windows are now
rendered on the desktop but they are not functional, as described above.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1184451] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

2013-11-07 Thread Panos Asimakopoulos
Has anybody noticed if that occurs right after using Nautilus for file

one occasion I noticed Nautilus using about 2GB of memory right before
my screen freezing. Switching to a virtual console to kill Xorg is not
always possible, sometimes I have to hard reboot.

Ubuntu 13.10, clean install.

Title:
LibreOffice Base can’t find Java installation—does not work

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:
  Confirmed
Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Since I work with Ubuntu 12.10 I have serious problems with LibreOffice. I
already reported bugs regarding the menu line and regarding the use of files
with smb. This one is the most critical though. It regards the Database app of
LO (Base). This one is very critical, since I cannot use Database at all, nor
for working with existing databases (created in LO before in Ubuntu environment
12.04 or earlier), nor for creating new databases.
I don't really understand the reason, but from the error messages it seems
that the application does not find Java running, hence it could be linked to
the OpenJDK Jave of Icedtea Java or any other Java-tool used by the standard
Ubuntu OS.
I will describe to cases: (a) using an existing database with Base and (b)
trying to create a new database.

  (a) using an existing database. Open LO, choose Database. It opens the
Window 'guided creation database'. I choose 'open existing database' ,
then Open, then search one of the existing databases with the
extention odb. The database opens with a grey screen. When I try to
move to 'tables', I get an error message, stating that it is
impossible to create a connection to the database and that it is
impossible to find a Java installation with the advice: verify your
installation (see attachment 1, error message in Italian). When
clicking on the button 'more' (più) one gets two new error messages.
The first one repeats the general message that it is impossible to
establish a connection (see attachment 2, message Italian), the second
one repeats the message that no Java installation has been found but
adds 'Stato SQL: HY000' (see attachment 3). No tables are shown. One
can see queries, forms and reports created before, but of course one
cannot open these items, since they cannot connect to the data in the
  table(s).

  (b) creating a new database. Open LO, choose the button Database. It
opens the window 'guided creation database'. I choose 'create a new
database. Push the button 'avanti' (next) then I confirm the default
choices, register the database and open the database in order to
modify. I can now give a name to the database and save it. Then the
database opens, immediately showing an error message, which is exactly
the same as the first message shown in (a) with exactly the same
underlying messages. These three messages are her included as
  attachments 4, 5 and 6.

I wonder whether other users have the same problem. I would like to
know whether there are work-arounds available (e.g.installing 'real'
Java) and whether it would be better to downgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
which was really stable and satisfactory. Quantal has made LibreOffice
almost completely unreliable for professional use. In order be able to
continue to use my databases I need to use another computer with
  Windows XP [ :-(( ] with LibreOffice 3.5.6.2 ( I don't upgrade the LO
package because I don't want to run the risk of not being able to
open my databases on any platform anymore).

The windows computer I referred to has a Ubuntu 12.10 dual boot
version installed alongside. This Ubuntu installation gives exactly
the same problems, for which I think that more users could be affected
  by this bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1166124] Re: Ubuntu minimum system requirements needs to be updated

2013-04-09 Thread Panos Georgiadis
This is not a bug. Please learn what is Minimum and what is Recommended
Requirements.

Minimum requirements: This is the minimum hardware that anyone can
install Ubuntu, no matter the speed, experience, lag, or whatever. This
man wants just to install Ubuntu on his computer, nothing more.

Recommended Requirements: This is all about user experience and all you
talk about. If you want to "change" something this is the recommended
requirements, NOT the minimum ones.

Bug description:
The specified minimum system requirements do not represent reality.
  According to
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements Ubuntu
desktop needs :

  * 700 MHz processor (about Intel Celeron or better)
  * 512 MiB RAM (system memory)
  * 5 GB of hard-drive space (or USB stick, memory card or external drive but
see LiveCD for an alternative approach)
  * VGA capable of 1024x768 screen resolution

With the latest technologies introduced by Unity, not only the above
is illogical but also, diminishes any chance of a good desktop
  experience with Ubuntu.

Also if we take into consideration the tests that have been form
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DemystifyingUnityGraphicsHardwareRequirements
it is obvious that for at least a bearable experience, a user will
  need :

  * 1000 GHz processor (about Intel Celeron or better)
  * 1024 MiB RAM (system memory)
  * 3D Acceleration Capable Videocard with at least 256 MB

From experience, we all know that it is recommended to have 2048 MiB
RAM to properly run a day to day Ubuntu.

A good start should be with minimum 1024 and recommended 2048 MiB RAM.
