On Ubuntu 12.04 x64 with Linux 3.2.0-36-generic I still cannot browse a
phone over bluetooth.

$ gvfs-mount obex://[00:1F:5D:C0:C8:08]

After the last command the following error is logged to /var/log/syslog:

On a MS Windows XP I can browse the phone over bluetooth and copy files

Bug description:
  SRU form for Oneiric

  [Impact]
  This bug prevents anyone from browsing their phone over bluetooth in Oneiric.
This is a regression because people were able to browse their phones in Natty
and earlier.

  [Development Fix]
  Build libgvfsdaemon as a static rather than shared library.

  [Stable Fix]
  Same as development fix.

  [Test Case]
  Use Gvfs-mount to mount the phone:

  $ gvfs-mount obex://[B8:F9:34:44:B4:10]
  Error mounting location: Connection refused

  [Regression Potential]
  Minimal. The fix is the same as Precise, and has been extensively tested
there. It has also gone through testing on Oneiric through the process of
finding the bug. Additionally, upstream has always statically linked
libgvfsdaemon, and we have not seen bug reports there or in other distros for
that. Natty and earlier versions of Ubuntu have statically linked libgvfsdaemon
and work fine.

  [Original bug report]

  Action "browse file on devices" from bluetooth gnome applet is not working
since upgrade to Oneiric
  Using same hardware configuration (PC + cell phone), it was working fine in
natty.

  after correct pairing of devices (same hardware). The cell phone I
  connect to is obex capable. it is a Sony Ericsson W20i.

  $ gvfs-mount obex://[B8:F9:34:44:B4:10]
  Error mounting location: Connection refused
  $ obexfs -b B8:F9:34:44:B4:10 m
  $ ls m
  Phone memory
  $

  so obexfs is ok, but gvfs-backends has a pb.
  After mounting with obexfs, browsing in nautilus is ok.

  From the applet if I just try "Send file to device", I also get a
  "connection refused (111)" message.

  On the phone, the connexion is set as "always allow"

  Hi !

  Just installed Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition.

  First boot was completly frozen. So i moved the mouse a little and suddenly
the boot continued.
  But every 5 seconds or so, the system completly hangs out until i move the
mouse again.
  Once i finally reached the desktop, i tryed opening a terminal... but again
as long as i don't move the mouse, the terminal won't initiate correcly and
show the prompt.

  Same issue reading a video. As long as i frenetically move the mouse
  the video will be smooth but if i dare stop, it just freeze and the
  sound goes in loop.

  I tried getting in normal desktop mode (not unity) but it didn't
  changed a thing.

  Then i deactivated all power management options like "deactivating hard drive
when iddle" or switch the screen off when idle etc.
  Once i did that it went a little better. Now i can let the computer untouched
for an incredible duration of ... 1mn or so then it starts again to freeze.

  lightdm-set-defaults is undocumented in lightdm man page

Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  first off, this applies to 12.10 and 12.04 and possibly earlier
  versions.

  secondly, in trying to figure out how to change some relatively simple
  things, i've found people suggesting an edit to lightdm.conf, which
  works, but clearly lightdm-set-defaults is a much better and user
  friendly way to do this. the lack of any reference to what the
  possible options are in the lightdm.conf versus the help page (-h) in
  lightdm-set-defaults is an example of this. however, there is no
  reference to it in the lightdm man page. this would be a simple fix.

  it would also help to throw it into a directory that is in the $PATH
  or set the directory it's installed in as part of the $PATH at
  install, but perhaps i should create a different bug for this.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 931967] Re: Corrupted graphics after the login until the unity launcher appears

2012-11-14 Thread rpr nospam
As suggested by jolindbe, on Ubuntu 12.04 I've invoked the following command:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
'file:///usr/share/backgrounds/Precise_Pangolin_by_Vlad_Gerasimov.jpg'

which fixed the issue of corrupted graphics after the user login (for
the user who invoked the command). After several reboots it's still OK.

This could be put in a logout script but I'd say that
/etc/gdm/PostSession/Default is not a good choice for Ubuntu 12.04 as it uses
lightdm instead of GDM.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 872114] Re: Yelp causes 100% CPU usage

2012-05-28 Thread rpr nospam
I can reproduce this bug on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit with yelp
3.4.1-0ubuntu1.The test machine has a quad-core 3.2 GHz AMD Phenom II
and when the bug occurs one of the cores constantly runs at 100% until
closing yelp (tested for 10+ minutes).

It seems that high CPU usage is triggered by using the search bar in
yelp. If a search query produces no results, load is normal. But if a
query produces some results, high CPU load occurs.

I'd say it this bug is quite similar to bug 268845 which was reported in
2008.

2012-06-06 Thread rpr nospam
Yes, it also happens in a guest session. I'm attaching the corresponding
~/.xsession-errors

I do not use a background picture on the desktop:
$ gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
''

$ gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
$ gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
'file:///usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png'

This gives back the default background picture but the Brightness and
Lock tool still does not show the brightness slider.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 210686]

2013-09-16 Thread rpr nospam
As a workaround for this issue I inserted a paragraph before the table
and formatted the text in the paragraph as hidden. Then tried to use
Select All. It selects all text only if the hidden text is visible,
which is enabled in Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Formatting
Aids > Display of Hidden text. If that option is not enabled the Select
All selects only the table, which is strange (another bug?).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 210686]

2013-08-19 Thread rpr nospam
Users who have at least intermediate computer skills would expect that
the Select All action selects all content of a document they are
editing/viewing in a GUI application. That is a standard across wide
range of applications.

If it is broken in LibreOffice Writer because some of its developers
decided to use certain document model (a defective model I'd say) then
AT LEAST the LibreOffice Help should contain a note about this issue.

Currently, the LibreOffice Help says the following in Text Documents >
Command and Menu Reference > Menus > Edit:

Select All
Selects the entire content of the current file, frame, or text object.

What does the "text object" means?

I'd suggest expanding this description so that it is in accordance with
the actual functionality of this command especially regarding the case
when a document begins with a table.

Also, I see that Select All doesn't include inserted frames.

@paddy-landau: Every application that writes to /tmp can change
permissions of the files in order to limit access only to the owner of
the files. Log on to Ubuntu as a guest and you'll find the complete
user's home directory in the /tmp/guest-* directory.

Title:
  NetworkManager do not reconnect disconnected GSM connection

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Network Manager is used to connect to internet with USB GSM modem. Some
operators, for example Aero2 in Poland, automatically disconnect you after 60
minutes. Majority of 3G, 4G routers while inserted with USB GSM modem or
stand-alone mobile GSM routers in case of disconnection, automatically
reconnect.
  Network Manager unfortunately if the connection is broken do not reconnect.
You can’t even just order NM to reconnect. You have to take USB GSM modem out
and insert it once again and tell NM to connect.
  I was told that wvdial on the Ubuntu forum that wvdial can auto connect
broken connection but NM do not have it.
  It should be fixed.
  The bug is present in Ubuntu 13.04, 12.10 and 12.04.
  Kind Regards

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 554183] Re: paste special does not work

2011-09-07 Thread rpr nospam
I'm affected by this in LibreOffice 3.4.3 (OOO340m1 Build:302) on
Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit. As mentioned above, the behaviour is
inconsistent.

I was working in Writer when this started to occur. Then I tried the
following steps:

(1) Close all Writer windows.

(2) Open a new blank document in Writer.

(3) Open gedit and write some text, select it and invoke Copy command.

(4) In Writer invoke the Paste command which works as expected.

(5) In Writer invoke the Paste Special command (either via the File
menu using the shortcut) - nothing happens.

But after I tried the same steps a few more times the Paste Special command
came back to normal.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 554183]

2014-01-19 Thread rpr nospam
I have a similar problem in LibO Writer (v. 4.1.3.2) on Linux Mint 16
64-bit.

At some point I can no longer Paste Special the text copied from an
external source, e.g. web page opened in Firefox, while the Paste
function still works.

So far the only workaround is to close all running LibreOffice
applications and reopen the documents.

  I tried getting in normal desktop mode (not unity) but it didn't

  Then i deactivated all power management options like "deactivating hard drive

  Once i did that it went a little better. Now i can let the computer untouched

Romain, could you install htop and run the htop command from command
line to see what process is causing high CPU usage?

Maximize the terminal window, start htop and sort processes by CPU% (F6,
then choose PERCENT_CPU).

  changed a thing.

  Then i deactivated all power management options like "deactivating hard drive
when iddle" or switch the screen off when idle etc.
  Once i did that it went a little better. Now i can let the computer untouched
for an incredible duration of ... 1mn or so then it starts again to freeze.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 657990] Re: System freeze when i'am not moving the mouse or typing.

2014-05-22 Thread rpr nospam
Romain, I'd sas that for additional troubleshooting the issue the following
article may give you some hints:
http://linoxide.com/how-tos/cpu-bottleneck-linux/

You should have the following packages installed: procps and sysstat.

First, maximize the terminal window. Then run vmstat and mpstat for a
while to see CPU usage, e.g.:

$ vmstat 2 5

$ mpstat 2 5

If you see high %irq you can use the following command to find out which
interrupt number is the culprit:

$ sar -I XALL 2 1 | less

And the following command shows the recorded number of interrupts per
CPU per IO device:

$ cat /proc/interrupts

which is useful to find out which IO device uses the interrupt (see more
in proc(5) man page).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 10910] Re: Default page size for printing is letter

2015-10-15 Thread rpr nospam
Elias, in you comment #175 you didn't wrote which version of Firefox you
had when you run it for the first time.

Also, have you noticed that if you make a change in
Regional Formats in System Settings > Language > Language Support > Regional
Formats
the change takes effect the next time you log in (see my comment #172).
Then check what you get when you run the locale command in the terminal window.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 10910] Re: Default page size for printing is letter

2015-09-30 Thread rpr nospam
I've tested Firefox 41 on Ubuntu 15.04 and I'd say that the issue has
been fixed. Here is the test procedure:

(1) Check your Regional Formats in System Settings > Language > Language
Support > Regional Formats. Let's say this option is set to "English (United
Kingdom)" (if you change it, the change takes effect the next time you log in).
That option will change the environment variables for various locale categories
including LC_PAPER.
(2) Start Firefox with default user settings. You can do it by running "firefox
-P" and creating a new user profile.
(3) Try to print (Ctrl+P). On the Page Setup tab you get "Paper size: A4".

I get this result even without step (2).

If the Regional Formats are set to "English (United States)" then you
get "Paper Size: US Letter".

You can also test this without changing Regional Formats: in the
Terminal Window run the following commands and check the paper size as
in step (3) above:

LC_PAPER=en_GB.UTF-8 firefox

LC_PAPER=en_US.UTF-8 firefox
