[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1619067] [NEW] Exporting slice in SVG respects hidden rectangle's size, not its area

2016-08-31 Thread Set Hallstrom
Public bug reported:

When exporting to plain-svg, inkscape respects the size of the slice-
rectangle, but not the area.

Steps to reproduce:
1.) Draw a shape
2.) Add a layer on top, name it export
3.) Draw a rectangle over the shape drawn in step 1.)
4.) Give shape ID-name: "slice-ID"
5.) save the file as inputfile.svg
6.) in the terminal, type the following command:
inkscape --export-id=slice-ID --export-plain-svg=slice-ID.svg inputfile.svg

expected result:
slice-ID.svg has the size of the slice-rectangle and the shape drawn in step
1.) is positioned in it as expected.

result: slice-ID.svg has the size of the slice-rectangle but the shape
drawn in step 1.) is _not_ positioned in it as expected.

(On a side note, feel free to read my bug report as a wish for plain-SVG
support in the "export" window with the same "Batch-export" check box as
for PNGs.)

This is actually expected behaviour. The slider depends on which output
is set as fallback.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1594814] [NEW] NetworkManager looking for signal strength in 'wlan0' instead of the apropriate 'wlxc46e1f1abe34"

2016-06-21 Thread Set Hallstrom
Public bug reported:

I get this error in my log a lot:
"Jun 21 15:04:00 basspistol NetworkManager[834]:   [1466514240.9769]
(wlan0): error getting signal strength: No such device"

My wireless device (TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless N Nano USB Adapter) is
getting a very funky name: "wlxc46e1f1abe34". It's not too much of a
problem since the connection is established and working, but it renders
the wifi-strength icon as if it was receiving maximum signal strength.

Restarting the network-manager with: "sudo systemctl restart network-
manager.service" solves the problem.

Not sure if it is related, but i am also affected by this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1589401
Even after upgrading to: network-manager-gnome:amd64 (1.2.0-0ubuntu0.16.04.1,
1.2.0-0ubuntu0.16.04.3) on 2016-06-19

  Ubuntu Touch devices are using cellular DNS servers over wifi
  connection

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu RTM:

Bug description:
  On my Nexus 4, build 121 with TMobile, when I am on wifi, I correctly
  get a 192.168 ip and DNS entries for this network (on wlan0) -- fine.
  When I am in range of cellular data, I get an ip address from TMobile
  and am given DNS entries that aren't on the same network as the
  TMobile ip address (on rmnet_usb0). The problem is, the DNS entries
  from TMobile are preferred over the ones from the wifi network such
  that while wlan0 is correctly setup as the default route, DNS queries
  are being made to the TMobile DNS servers over wlan0 because there are
  no explicit routes to these servers. This is problematic because the
  remote DNS server may not respond to queries coming from out of
  network or site policy may disallow the use of foreign DNS servers--
  both of which result in slow (or possibly failing) DNS queries since
  the cellular DNS is checked first. Also, where it did work, these
  queries could incur charges when the user is intending to use only
  wifi. In the case of (at least) TMobile, this could be a security
  concern because the well-known TMobile DNS servers are on the private
  '10.' network, which opens the possibility for a rogue DNS server to
  be on the private wifi network with this ip address.

  This could be fixed in (at least) four ways:
   1) when on wifi, don't merge the DNS servers on cellular networks at all
which forces the device to use the ones available on the site (wlan0). This is
guaranteed to not incur changes
   2) when on wifi, merge the DNS server from the cellular network, but add
them after the ones on the wifi network. This will try the site's DNS first and
only if they fail, fallback to the cellular DNS. This may incur charges under
certain circumstances
   3) add an explicit route to the cellular DNS servers through rmnet_usb0.
This will bypass the site DNS with all queries going through cellular DNS. This
will incur charges and would make the device unable to resolve site-local names.
   4) same as '2', but also add explicit routes for the cellular name servers.
This should only incur charges if wifi DNS fails

  I think '3' is out. '2' and '4' seems most intuitive (with '4' perhaps
  most correct). '1' seems also ok.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1579712] Re: Refresh hangs indefinitely, appstreamcli using 100% CPU

2016-05-19 Thread Set Hallstrom
Might be completely unrelated, but i noticed most mirrors have this
weird loop:
http://ubuntu.mirror.su.se/ubuntu/ubuntu/ubuntu/ubuntu/ubuntu/ubuntu/ubuntu/ubuntu/ubuntu/

i write "most", but I haven't yet found any mirror that hasn't got it.

Title:
  Refresh hangs indefinitely, appstreamcli using 100% CPU

Status in appstream package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in appstream source package in Xenial:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * The cache refresh is blocked on a strdup on a non-NULL-terminated string
in some very rare occasions (very rare because this bug is present for almost
3y without a single report).
   * Fixing this bug resolves the issue for people who might experience it.
   * See https://github.com/ximion/appstream/issues/35 for details.

  [Test Case 1]

   * Run `sudo appstreamcli refresh --force`
   * The AppStream cache should be updated, no change in behavior should be
seen.

  [Test Case 2]

   * In case you were experiencing the almost-infinite hang when running
  `sudo appstreamcli refresh --force`, this issue should be fixed with
  the SRU.

  [Regression Potential]

   * Very low, since this only fixes the decompression code. There
  should be no sideeffects of that (given that the patch itself doesn't
  break anything, which it shouldn't, since it has been tested upstream
  for a while)

  [Other Info]

   * This fix has been applied upstream:
https://github.com/ximion/appstream/commit/f33c520c37e2ba51d92402220250b8d501a2bf43
   * A smaller version of the patch (one-liner) is available, at the expense of
not having reduced memory usage:
https://github.com/ximion/appstream/commit/378941787d3584b3eb31a6ebe40e0aacc10e180a

  /!\ Installing the bugfix from xenial-proposed, without going through APT:
  To install the fixed packages manually, please execute the following commands
(for amd64, adjust URLs for other architectures):

  ```
  cd /tmp && mkdir asfix
  cd asfix
  wget
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/appstream_0.9.4-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
  wget
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libappstream3_0.9.4-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
  sudo dpkg -i libappstream3*.deb
  sudo dpkg -i appstream*.deb
  ```

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1572938] Re: Connected to wifi, the indicator behaves odly

2016-04-22 Thread Set Hallstrom
When the icon is wrong i AM connected, but if i get disconnected at that
point, the only way to get back on-line is by using "connect to hidden
network" since the indicator will not show any wifi in range.

On my laptop, deleting all known networks and rebooting solved my issue.
On my desktop, this didn't help and i'm still struggling with the bug.

I will try using unity and report back. The attached files to this bug
are from my laptop, i will report it from my desktop too.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1572938] Re: Connected to wifi, the indicator behaves odly

2016-04-21 Thread Set Hallstrom
After reboot, the wifi icon is there. But when i restart the net-work
manager, i get the Ethernet icon again and the list of wifi-networks in
range is gone again.

Steps to reproduce:

- Click on the wifi icon in the indicator
- Uncheck "Enable Networking"
- Check "Enable Networking"

Result: The Network-manager reconnects to the network, but gives no list
of networks in range and the icon is the one for Ethernet.

Expected result: The Network-manager reconnects to the network, shows
list of networks in range and the icon is the one for Ethernet wifi.

Hi penvalch! I'm 99.9% certain it isn't happening in 14.04.4. Although i
would need to test it to answer for 15.04 nor 15.10, blender being a

  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48XLvblnz7A i show there what the
  problem is.

  But i'll describe it textually here:

  What i do:
  Open any image in Gimp
  Select any tool and try to work with it on the image
  The cursor that is applying that tool is not where the mouse cursor of the
Operating System is

  It should be noted that i'm on a dual monitor machine and that the
  "fake" cursor moves slower than the real one. So it maybe related to
  that.

  I am yet to find a workaround this problem (apart from opening the
  window on both screens and hoping to be able to hit the right spot.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1540759] Re: Mouse cursor appears in the wrong position in Gimp

2016-02-02 Thread Set Hallstrom
I was unable to reproduce the bug with a single screen, nor a dual screen.
Volodya: maybe there is an overlap in your ARandR settings? I'm just doing a
wild guess here, but if you havn't already check it: you will find the ARandR
settings in the Settings Manager in the "hardware" section.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 694910] Re: Regression: patch to bug 539477 breaks Super+P keybindings

2015-02-14 Thread set
My workaround (14.10) to use the Superp keybinding as screenshot
shortcut is to unbind unity/compiz bindings and add this to
$HOME/.xbindkeysrc

gnome-screenshot -c
mod4 + p

This keeps xrandr and other media keys 'alive'. See also:

  Regression: patch to bug 539477 breaks Super+P keybindings

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

  The current patch to bug 539477 breaks the super+p keybinding for all
  user applications when running gnone-settings-daemon. This behavior is
  hard-coded, not discoverable, and not configurable.

  The workaround is to disable parts of xrandr such that screen
  switching is no longer possible.

  The patch has been checked in and released as a bugfix to Ubuntu
  10.10, causing regressions in several applications.
