[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

2015-06-17 Thread sgon00
If I plug the phone to ubuntu 14.04 i386 desktop PC, it will work.
If I plug the same phone to ubuntu 14.04 64bit laptop, it will NOT work.
Damn weird.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1278223] Re: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor

2014-12-19 Thread sgon00
Today, I can confirm this issue is not only related to two graphic
cards. It also happens with only one graphic card. I am using a laptop
with built-in graphic card and intel driver. I disabled the built-in
LVDS1 monitor and then only enable TWO monitors: VGA and HDMI. My laptop
graphic card has both VGA and HDMI outputs. VGA is the default monitor
and the mouse is flickering in the VGA monitor, not in the HDMI monitor.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1278223] Re: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor

2014-12-12 Thread sgon00
Same here. Any updates or workarounds? None of the above workarounds works.
The number of monitors does not matter. I have only two monitors active. The
problem still exist. It's about the UGA and two graphic cards.
For me, browser activities will trigger the mouse cursor flickering problem.
And yeah, the flickering only happens in the monitor connected with built-in
graphic card, NOT in the monitor connected with UGA.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1296020] Re: [Asus U36JC] Non-existent display detected in both intel driver and nvidia driver (Optimus Laptop) (ubuntu trusty 14.04)

2014-07-30 Thread sgon00
After installing ubuntu-drivers-common 1:0.2.91.6:

1, With intel driver (nvidia driver not installed), the problem is NOT
fixed. Non-existent display is still there.

2, With nvidia driver installed, my gdm can not be started. (I am using

Bug description:
  SRU Request

Systems with Optimus (Intel+NVIDIA GPUs) can have ghost VGA devices
hardcoded in the BIOS. This leads the system into thinking that there
is actually one more active output than there really is.

  [Impact]
   * The ghost VGA output confuses lightdm and the gnome-settings-daemon making
the system unusable.

  [Test Case]
   * Install the nvidia binary driver, reboot, and check the output of the
xrandr -q command
  - Expected: only the outputs that are actually connected will be marked
as active.
  - Bad behavior: a non-existent VGA device will show up in the output.

  [Regression Potential]
   * Low, as it only disables CRT outputs in the nvidia driver.

  [Other Info]
   * N/A

  --

There is a non existent display detected in both intel driver only and nvidia
331 driver installation.
The non existent display is Unknown Display shown in gnome-control-center
-- display and CRT-0 in nvidia-settings, and VGA-0 in xrandr -q output.
It will cause gdm failed to start. gnome-shell has some crazy layouts.
lightdm will only occupy 2/3 of monitor in top left corner.
I tested this in intel driver only environment. and nvidia-331 installation
environment.
My laptop is Asus U36JC. My monitor correct resolution is 1366x768.

If there is only one display (the built-in laptop monitor), gdm works fine
without any problems. If I plugged in another VGA display at boot time, gdm
will flicker between grey and black (off) background without showing any text

plugged in the second VGA monitor. gnome-shell works fine with

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1297090] [NEW] nvidia-settings can not detect any real displays/monitors (trusty) (Optimus Laptop)

2014-03-24 Thread sgon00
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 Trusty (latest upgrade)
Hardware: Asus U36JC
Graphic Driver: nvidia-331

I have opened a bug #1296020 (Non-existent display detected in both intel
driver and nvidia driver).
Except the non-existent display issue, nvidia-settings can not detect any real
displays. The only display/monitor it can detect is the non-existent one. I
think this should be a different bug for nvidia-331.

For xrandr -q output, please refer to bug #1296020. nvidia-settings
becomes useless now, it can not detect the built-in display and it can
not detect any new external display. It can only detect the non-existent
CRT-0 (VGA-0). Gnome control center -- Display can detect all displays.
(but it fails to rotate external VGA display. not sure if this is
another bug or not).

I will attach two screenshots for nvidia-settings and gnome-control-
center -- display.

NOTE: due to the bug #1296020 and gdm flickering issue, I have added the
following section to xorg.conf:

Section Monitor
Identifier VGA-0
Option Ignore True
EndSection

AND, xorg.conf is auto-generated by some package. I never created it
manually. It might be generated by gpu-manager (I was told).

This screenshot is taken BEFORE adding the following to xorg.conf:

Section Monitor
Identifier VGA-0

Regardless the above modification, nvidia-settings can only detect CRT-0
(which is VGA-0).

Note: this Unknown non-existent display happens in intel driver only
environment TOO. If required, I can provide xrandr -q output with that
environment. At present, I don't bother to remove/purge my nvidia-331
installation.

Please let me know if anything else is required. Thank you very much!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1244827] Re: [13.10] Ubuntu detects a non-existing screen

2014-03-22 Thread sgon00
I am not sure if this is the same problem or not. I have a similar
issue. I opened a Bug #1296020 for ubuntu 14.04 trusty. This is critical
to me. I can NOT use gdm and gnome-shell at all because of this bug. gdm
failed to start because of this. gnome-shell shows a black (off) screen.
I haven't tried unity yet.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1290792] [NEW] Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in RRSetChanged()

2014-03-11 Thread sgon00
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1249551 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1249551

Public bug reported:

1, I opened a bug #1288572 with nvidia-driver.

2 ,there are too many problems with nvidia driver. I think I should
remove it for now. thus I did apt-get purge nvidia-331 nvidia-prime
and then apt-get autoremove.

3, Since my laptop is optimus, this will force me to use intel driver by
default. Reboot the system and login gnome-shell with gdm.

This apport bug pops up. I can login successfully. not sure why I see
this apport popup.

Title:
Nvidia driver does not work in Ubuntu GNOME trusty 14.04 (Optimus
  laptop)

Status in “nvidia-prime” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Environment:
Asus Laptop U36JC
Ubuntu GNOME 14.04, the Trusty Tahr, (AMD64)

I realized there were bugs Bug #1262068 and Bug #1283439. I am not
sure if they are the same to my problem or not.

In Bug #1283439, it's about using lightdm. but I am running Ubuntu Gnome. The
problem happens in gdm rather than lightdm.
In Bug #1262068, it says the bug is fixed. I tried sudo apt-get update and
then upgrade, the problem exists.

I installed nvidia driver by sudo apt-get install nvidia-331.

Before installing nvidia driver, everything works fine under intel driver.
After installing nvidia driver, I can only see a black screen. gdm can not be
loaded. I tried to switch to lightdm. lightdm can be loaded, but I can not
enter gnome with lightdm.

google-chrome work fine in ubuntu-gnome 14.04. I am happy with that.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1288572] [NEW] Nvidia driver does not work in Ubuntu GNOME trusty 14.04 (Optimus laptop)

2014-03-05 Thread sgon00
Public bug reported:

Before installing nvidia driver, everything works fine under intel
driver. After installing nvidia driver, I can only see a black screen.
gdm can not be loaded. I tried to switch to lightdm. lightdm can be
loaded, but I can not enter gnome with lightdm.

** Affects: nvidia-prime (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Incomplete

** Tags: gnome3 trusty

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1278062] Re: firefox crashes on startup (but apparently layunched properly to enable me to post this)

2014-02-28 Thread sgon00
same problem here. Latest lubuntu amd64.
This problem not only happens in firefox. Many apps have the same problem. For
example, google-chrome will give segmentation fault. In lubuntu, right click
desktop pager and then left click Desktop Pager Settings will give the same
segmentation fault.
Workaround: everything works with 'sudo'. For example: 'sudo firefox' works.
'sudo google-chrome' works.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1278062] Re: firefox crashes on startup (but apparently layunched properly to enable me to post this)

2014-02-28 Thread sgon00
1, chromium-browser is different from google-chrome. In my environment,
google-chrome gets the same segmentation fault. chromium-browser works.

2, this is not about themes. I tried different themes. Programs always
segfault. Those theme warning messages are harmless.

3, Running GUI apps with sudo is bad. BUT this just gives some peope and
devs some ideas. I think this may help devs to fix the bug. Because sudo
GUI apps will always work without segmentation fault. This is weird. Do
anyone know why this happens ? Are any developers aware of this critical
problem?

Trusty 14.04 will be released within 2 months. And now, even built-in
firefox and google-chrome can not be run. This is amazing.

2013-10-30 Thread sgon00
Fresh install of ubuntu-gnome 13.10, my lock screen is extremely slow
without doing anything. Dell PC and Intel Graphic Card. When I hit
Ctrl+Alt+L to lock screen, it will take 19.6 seconds to lock the screen.
My desktop only has google-chrome and gnome-terminal open. I have no
idea what's going on. about 20 seconds. that is a long time. My desktop
is frozen during these 20 seconds.
