[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1282040] Re: Liferea (1.10.3-1ubuntu1) does not start any more

2014-04-20 Thread strange_cathect
I'm having this problem. Liferea starts when clicked in the Dash, but
starts up minimized in the Dash. It shows how many unread news items I
have. However, I cannot ge the program to maximize so that it can be
used. Nothing happens when you try to maximize it from the Dash.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1175601] Re: Two Chromium background instances and a browser window open on boot without my permission

2013-05-19 Thread strange_cathect
I can confirm this is happening to me as well. It just started a few
days ago after an update. When I log in, Chromium starts and opens two
blank tabs w/o my permission.

Title:
Two Chromium background instances and a browser window open on boot

Status in “chromium-browser” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When I log into my user session (type in my password on the login
prompt after boot), Chromium auto-starts, and two instances of its
background process automatically open: per the attached image, two
Chromium icons appear in the top bar. Also, an instance of the browser
appears in the middle of the screen.

When this happens, I get an inconsistent browsing experince in
Chromium, where it is randomly unable to connect to web sites or
download components referenced by web pages (e.g., CSS files, JS
  files, etc.).

I can fix by closing the browser and also both the background
  sessions, then restarting Chromium.

I have never configured Chromium to start up when I log into my
session. This has happened without my explicit permission or consent.

If I go to Session and Startup's Application Autostart tab, Chromium
appears in the list and is checked. I did not configure this.

Expected behavior: No part of Chromium opens at all, not even a
background process, until I launch the browser for the first time.

I am using a copy of Xubuntu 13.04 that was upgraded from Xubuntu
12.10. This problem was happening for several weeks back with Xubuntu
  12.10, too.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 963736] Re: thunderbird freezes at random : must be killed and reload

2013-05-06 Thread strange_cathect
I can confirm David Wallace's assertion that this seems to happen after
the computer wakes from idle.

The first email I try to send at that point freezes my machine for
approximately 1.5 minutes. Then the email goes through and my system is
back. It seems that it is actually going through the window animation in
extreme slow motion...

Sometimes the freeze happens when sending a mail. I had no problem in 11.10.

It happens several times a day. The only pattern that I can currently
see is that the freeze happens frequently when thunderbird is using

Bug description:
I run Ubuntu 11.10 on a Dell desktop with a dual use video card that
goes into two monitors. They normally work great and I have no
complaints. When I first upgraded to 11.10, I would occasionally have
both monitors randomly black out, and I'd have to restart the computer
to get them back. Though that problem seemed to go away, and I wrote
it off to package upgrades that fixed a bug.

Then, after upgraded unity and a bunch of other packages today it
started it again. Three times I've had it black out this morning. I
don't know why. Though I often use hotkeys to slide between
workspaces, and one of the blackouts happened during a slide.

  * [Unity Engineering] Evaluate if twinview could be triggering a bug in unity?
  * Attempt to reproduce the bug outside Unity to see if it can be proved to
not be Unity-specific
