[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1317046] [NEW] Extensive flicker on NVIDIA since yesterday's update
Public bug reported: I did an apt-get upgrade yesterday and rebooted, and since then my desktop windows flicker on changes enough to make the system difficult to use. For example, pop-ups on chrome will flicker between two spots over and over and continue to flicker so long as I am typing (happening right now on each keystroke typing here, fragments of a Chrome plugin notification will alternate positions on each keystroke). Also in chrome, changing tabs will cause the previous and next tab to flicker alternating rapidly for a moment before the new selection is set. This effect happens changing any windows so it isn't peculiar to Chrome. I noticed also that on rebooting after the upgrade, the settings for my two monitor display had been reset to the defaults. Prior to the update, the window manager was working fine. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1246543] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 - HL2270DW printer will not print after upgrade
I should have tried that first -- and a curious thing, as soon as I deleted the old printer entry, the unprinted test page printed. I did an aptitude purge of both the cupswrapper and the hl2270dwlpr and then reinstalled, and now it prints!! yay! I love happy endings. ** Changed in: cups (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to cups in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1246543 Title: Ubuntu 13.10 - HL2270DW printer will not print after upgrade Status in “cups” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: After upgrading to 13.10, I am able to print to one network printer, but not to the other; both are Brother printers, the MFC-j6510DW prints fine, but the "Brother HL2270DW for CUPS" goes through all the motions, it even causes the printer to click once as if it is about to print, but nothing comes out. Other machines on the network, including one that was also upgraded to 13.10, are able to print to this device, and if I print to file, and then use ssh to cat the contents of the PDF to lpr on the printer machine (running 13.04) I can print. But test pages and evince are unable to print directly. The MFC-j6510DW printer is on it's own, connected via wifi, but the HL2270DW is connected to another LAN machine via USB, but this does not appear to bother any other machines on the LAN. In the Cups access.log on the printer host, the logs appear fine: localhost - - [30/Oct/2013:21:04:54 -0400] "POST /printers/HL2270DW HTTP/1.1" 200 306 Create-Job successful-ok localhost - - [30/Oct/2013:21:04:54 -0400] "POST /printers/HL2270DW HTTP/1.1" 200 21751 Send-Document successful-ok localhost - radio [30/Oct/2013:21:05:08 -0400] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 186 Renew-Subscription successful-ok localhost - - [30/Oct/2013:21:07:44 -0400] "POST /printers/HL2270DW HTTP/1.1" 200 306 Create-Job successful-ok localhost - - [30/Oct/2013:21:07:45 -0400] "POST /printers/HL2270DW HTTP/1.1" 200 21170 Send-Document successful-ok and on the sending machine, the print queue says "sending" and then the print queue is empty. well THAT was disasterous: having nvidia drivers, it is poison to upgrade! :( The system is now largely unusable: I've had to remove all the fglrx drivers because they cause unity and other apps to crash (there appears to be no open-GL support anymore) and now, rebooting into the open source drivers, the desktop image on the HDMI monitor is considerably larger than the screen, so the menus and status bar are now beyond the view, regardless of the resolution! -- the many fglrx bug reports suggest this issue won't be solvable any time soon my 7 year old son looked at it and said, "Welcome to 2013!" :( just in case my report didn't include this before, I am running NVIDIA Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT 220] (rev a2) which worked quite well in 11.04 On Sat, Jan 5, 2013 at 11:03 AM, Gary Lawrence Murphy wrote: > I will upgrade today and let you know; the machine is the primary > workstation for several people so it isn't aways convenient to test-- it > may take a few days to know for certain > > -- > sent from the enTourage eDGe > On Jan 5, 2013 3:15 AM, "madbiologist" <1090...@bugs.launchpad.net> wrote: > >> Does this still occur on Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal"? >> >> ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) >>Status: New => Incomplete >> >> -- >> You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug >> report. >> https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1090111 >> >> Title: >> HDMI reports resolution mismatch on changing users >> >> Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers” package in Ubuntu: >> Incomplete >> >> Bug description: >> I may need some help gathering necessary information for this as I am >> not sure what component will be affected, I'm only guessing it is >> nvidia as that is the video module loaded. >> >> symptom: on changing users, only sometimes, the HDMI connected screen >> goes blank and the monitor hardware reports a resolution mismatch. >> Restarting X does not fix the problem, the only solution I've found is >> a hardware reboot. just for the record: I switched from Unity-2D to LXDE and with it had to switch to using the pavucontrol to set up my sound devices: the unified paprefs device appeard in the pavucontrol lists, and when set the system behaves as it did under Unity in 11.04, the same sound is now heard on both channels. So I am left with the issue of why the admin is able to use the sound and not the other users, even though all of them are in the audio /etc/group fwiw, the pavucontrol did show volume controls of the mono speaker and a switch for mono mix; I turned both on and turned the volume full blast but heard nothing coming out of the box. It's my guess Dell just didn't bother to put a speaker on it ;) -- *Have Blog, Will Travel: blog.teledyn.com* *A Serviceable Substitute: post.teledyn.com* *eso: **EighthStreetOrchestra.posterous.com* -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1087905 Title: no audio output device with ens1371 Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Dell Dimension L700CXE desktop, was running 11.05, but on upgrading to 11.10 and then to 12.05 the sound device has vanished; the modules are loaded, the device appears in lspci, but on the sound config Output or Input panel there are no devices listed and the output volume slider is greyed out. it must be something simple I'm overlooking, because so much of this looks perfectly normal. Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1087905] Re: no audio output device with ens1371
I'll take your word for it ;) I see also, listed in the Output Devices, for the admin account (other user accounts still cannot see ANY devices) I have LFE on Separate Mono Output/ No Amplifier LFE on Separate Mono Output / Amplifier Headphones / No Amplifier Headphones / Amplifier and I have my Analog Output B-Link USB Audio device; running paprefs no longer adds the device that binds the output together under one pseudo device. Under Ubuntu 11.04 I don't recall seeing those LFE entries, just the line-out and headphone. Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 921610] Re: playback halts, refuses to play subsequent tracks
this may be some sort of sound conflict with xchat notifications (using aoss) as I noticed in lsof | grep snd that xchat was using the sound system and once it was removed and rhythmbox restarted, the sound returned. So it's some sort of blocking that's going on between the two.
