Title:
  Couldn't connect to accessibility bus

Status in evince package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in evince source package in Jammy:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  * Impact

the apparmor profile blocks the connection to the accessibility bus
since it hasn't been updated for the new socket location,
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/at-spi2-core/-/issues/43

  * Test Case

start evince, it shouldn't print the warning

dbind-WARNING **: Couldn't connect to accessibility bus: Failed to
connect to socket /run/user/UID/at-spi/bus_0: Permission denied

start orca, it should be able to read the content of evince

  * Regression potential

The change is only allowing an extra location in the apparmor profile,
we kept also the old path for compatibility reasons and for making the
profile easier to share between series. Allowing the extra location
shouldn't create a regression but if the change was incorrect it is
possible that evince would still bot be able to connect to the bus

Rebooting did not change the problem.
Umounting loop*, purging snapd, and rebooting fixed the problem.

Title:
Thunderbird shows accent marks instead of punctuation

Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I upgraded from 20.04 LTS to 22.04.2 LTS. Since then, thunderbird and
some other applications show accent marks rather than punctuation
  marks in the title bar.

For example, wavecable.com is displayed as wavecable^com where ^ is an
  accent mark.

This has happened since the upgrade.

If I change language to English_en, I get lots of arabic characters.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1721401] Re: eog fails to open png: Failed to register: Timeout was reached

2019-08-27 Thread tomdean
I have another 18.04.3 installation on this computer, on a WD5000, that
also uses TWM. The 27 second display does not happen. On that system,
I notice a difference in time for the very first execution of eog to the
next. The shared libs seem to have stayed loaded inbetween.

** Changed in: eog (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1721401] Re: eog fails to open png: Failed to register: Timeout was reached

2019-08-27 Thread tomdean
I have this problem.

Ubuntu 18.04.3
4.15.0-58-generic kernel
X and TWM. Some gnome things are running...

eog image1.jpg takes 27 seconds to open a window.

Sometimes, I get 'Failed to register: Timeout was reached' message and
eog is terminated.

This happens when I have TWM as the desktop. With gdm3, this does not
seem to happen.

eog fails to open png: Failed to register: Timeout was reached

Status in eog package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
eog fails to open PNG file. After about 25 seconds, it gives up and
  says:

Failed to register: Timeout was reached

You can find the relevant image at:

Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, GNOME Image Viewer 3.18.2.

I expect it to display the image. Instead it fails with the above
  message.

Image Magicks "display" utility shows the image fine.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1800328] Re: HP Office Jet Cups reports Filter Failed. Works OK with 16.04

2018-10-28 Thread tomdean
HP Officejet Pro 8620 fails printing with filter failed message
sudo rmdir /usr/share/ghostscript/9.25/iccprofiles
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgs9-common
in cups, localhost:631, restart jobs
printed all jobs.

My issue seems to be fixed.

Does something need to be done in the upgrade process?

As you can see, the @{@} is replaced with each line read from
  standard input.

  A rebuild of texlive-bin didn't help
