[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1736163] [NEW] Ctrl+Shift+PrintScreen does not save screenshots

2017-12-04 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
Public bug reported:

Both PrintScreen and Alt+PrintScreen save a screenshot under ~/Pictures.

Ctrl+Shift+PrintScreen (window selection snapshot) does not.

The snapping animation is displayed, which suggest the controls were
registered properly. However, no corresponding screenshot is generated
in ~/Pictures.

** Affects: gnome-screenshot (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1705124] Re: Snap apps have blurry icons in Wayland session

I confirmed this. Installed and ran Atom from the snap package, and
indeed the icon appearing on the dock is noticeably blurry compared to
others. Same for VLC.

It works on Kernel 3.13 for me (current version in Debian Sid), so the
updated kernel is probably not needed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 947038] Re: Rhythmbox: Add to Playlist option creates a playlist with an empty name

2014-04-21 Thread Ghislain Vaillant
Still applicable to the version of Rhytmbox shipped with 12.04. This bug
is still not fixed in the latest version in 14.04, although the
behaviour has changed a bit.

In Rhythmbox v3.0.1, Add to Playlist - New Playlist still creates a
Playlist with a blank name but moves straight to renaming mode to allow
the user to enter a playlist name right after adding the files. However,
one can still create a playlist with a blank name inadvertently by just
clicking somewhere else.

A more adequate behaviour would be to provide New Playlist as default
name regardless and keep the current behaviour of moving to renaming
mode should the user choose to rename the playlist to a different name
straight away.

When playing a song with Rhythmbox, I can pause and resume the played

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1301839] Re: AMD Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M[1002:6660] Low-graphic mode with Trusty

2014-04-19 Thread Ghislain Vaillant
@Pali: I am glad it worked for you, but this is not an acceptable
solution for less technical users who just want Ubuntu to work straight
after boot.

I currently dual boot with Debian unstable, which is running kernel
3.13, mesa 10.1, xorg 1.15 and GNOME 3, and I have none of these
problems. Both the opensource and proprietary drivers worked painlessly.

I don't know whether the probblem comes from Unity itself or the patched
kernel that Ubuntu runs, but, as of today, I cannot use the opensource
driver because of this bug and cannot use the proprietary driver because
Unity refuses to load (same as reported here:
http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?93838-Ubuntu-14-04-Kernel-3-13
-and-AMD-Catalyst-issue). The only option that works is with nomodeset
(Unity running software acceleration), great !

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1170832] Re: Facebook Requires Authorization when already authorized

2013-09-10 Thread Ghislain Vaillant
A patch has been worked out upstream apparently:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68829

** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #68829
   https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68829

** Package changed: empathy (Ubuntu) = telepathy-gabble (Ubuntu)

** Also affects: telepathy-gabble via

Facebook Requires Authorization when already authorized

Status in Chat app, and Telepathy user interface:
  New
Status in Jabber/XMPP connection manager:
  Unknown
Status in “telepathy-gabble” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am running fully updated 13.04 64-bit. I simply cannot get
empathy/UOA to connect to facebook. When I add the account in UOA
everything seems to go well, facebook login page loads, it logs in
  successfully, facebook recognizes the session as safari on linux;
but upon completing the setup in UOA empathy refuses to connect to it
and keeps telling me it requires authorization.

I've Tried the following: Removing the account from UOA
Ending all active sessions on facebook and deleting the ubuntu app
  rebooting
adding account in UOA, and allowing the ubuntu app to manage my messages
etc...

Didn't help at all. pidgin connects fine on the same computer.

Sometimes it does let me add it and it works for a while, but
eventually this issue happens again and leaves me totally unable to
successfully add a facebook account for quite some time, until it
randomly decides it wants to work again. Empathy/UOA in 13.04 has been
unreliable to the point of ridiculousness, the application is
basically unusable and can't handle the one basic task of an instant
messaging program, which is connecting to my accounts reliably.

2013-09-10 Thread Ghislain Vaillant
Confirmation the fix is working in the debian unstable package. Should
make it in Saucy as part of the debian unstable sync, but should
consider backporting this patch to the versions in 12.04, 12.10 and
13.04.

Works for me on 12.04, haven't tested on 11.10 though. If so, this
report should be closed as fixed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1050311] [NEW] playback progress bar gets stuck although song is still playing

2012-09-13 Thread Ghislain Vaillant
Public bug reported:

While doing the laptop tests for beta 1, I encountered a weird bug on
Rhythmbox's UI. I tried to move the playback forward using the progress
bar on the top right, but missed the bar and ended up clicking a little
bit too high.

The results were: 1) song kept playing as if nothing happened (good
since I apparently missed the progress bar click zone), 2) the
playback progress bar got stuck at the playback poisition at which I
made the click. The song eventually kept going until the end, with the
playback progress still stuck somewhere in the middle in the song. See
screenshot attached, that displays the invalid playback position
although the song playback had already finished.

Steps to reproduce this bug:
1) Launch a song with Rhythmbox. Mine was the one contained in the example
folder in my home folder.
2) Click the playback progress bar on the top right corner of the UI to move
the song forward. That should work as expected.
3) Click again but aim to a position lower or higher than the bar, your pointer
should turn into a hand for a fraction of second if the manipulation succeeded.
4) The playback should resume but the progress bar should now be stuck.
5) Restarting the song does not unlock the progress bar, for me I had to
correctly register a click on the bar as in step #2 to get the progress bar
alive again.

Expected behaviour:
Not too sure about this one. If correct registration of the progress bar click
is assumed to be when one clicks ON the bar itself, then aiming a little too
under or upper should not do anything. However, if the registration zone is
expected to cover the height of the playback tool bar (i.e. the height of the
Pause button), then wherever I click in the progress bar zone should move the
progress bar at the right position (i.e. the registered relative x-position of
my mouse pointer) and keep the playback and its progress alive.

As usual, let me know whether further testing is required.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1050311] Re: playback progress bar gets stuck although song is still playing

2012-09-13 Thread Ghislain Vaillant
I just compared with Rhythmbox 2.96 on Precise and the click
registration zone gets displayed between 2 horizontal lines (see my
mouse pointer on screenshot). Clicking elsewhere does nothing.

Again I don't know how the new design, where the progress bar has now
been moved to the right, intended to manage this. I suppose the same
mechanism is still in use and a click registration zone still exists
albeit not explicitly displayed. If this is the case, I would suggest to
use a similar behaviour as in the working Precise version, while keeping
the currently layout which arguably looks prettier.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1037457] [NEW] inappropriate color theme in the contact list

2012-08-16 Thread Ghislain Vaillant
Public bug reported:

A slight usability issue, certainly because of the default empathy color
theme. On the contact list, when using the drop-dowm menu to set your
status (Available, Busy...), the text color is dark grey on a black
background. Unless you are lucky to use a monitor with strong backlight,
this is obviously not the wisest choice for readability. Hoovering the
menu entries with the mouse does reveal the text better (orange
background with white text) but this is not intuitive at first.

Proposed solution :
Instead, the color layout in the drop-down menu of the contact list should be
set to white font on dark background as it is for the Me Menu under the mail
icon. One might argue that people are more likely to use the Me Menu instead of
the contact list. Still, this fix will bring a little more consistancy between
all the available options for the user.

Bug description:
Playing commercial audio CDs worked fine for me in rhythmbox in the
initial release of Ubuntu 12.04 (May 2012).

However sometime between then and 5th Jul 2012, they have stopped
  working.

Currently I get either a few seconds of sound and then nothing, or the first
few seconds of each track are very jerky
and then rest of track plays ok.

Movies / Audio from YouTube work fine in Firefox and Chromium.
Commercial move DVDs play fine audio/visual in MoviePlayer
Audio from .ogg files on my hard disk play fine in Rhythmbox.

So some problem with reading audio from CDs.

I have tried the suggestions at
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/PositionReporting none of which helped.

This is related to various reported bugs, but I dont know enough to
say for sure that they are duplicates.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 951444] [NEW] gdm battery icon not right

2012-03-10 Thread Ghislain Vaillant
Public bug reported:

I have replaced lightDM by GDM as my loggin manager. The battery
indicator in GDM works as expected but the icon displayed (small
horizontal-shaped battery with plain charge display) is not consistant
with the power button icon next to it and with the actual battery icon
displayed in Gnome-Shell (vertical battery with dotted-like charge
display ).

Title:
  gdm battery icon not right

Status in “gdm” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have replaced lightDM by GDM as my loggin manager. The battery
indicator in GDM works as expected but the icon displayed (small
horizontal-shaped battery with plain charge display) is not consistant
with the power button icon next to it and with the actual battery
icon displayed in Gnome-Shell (vertical battery with dotted-like
  charge display ).

I expected to get the same battery indicator for both GDM and Gnome-
Shell, which would look definitely better.

Same thing happens with Banshee (2.3.6), perhaps a gstreamer related bug
then ?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 951073] [NEW] rhythmbox controls stuck to pause in gnome-shell indicator

2012-03-09 Thread Ghislain Vaillant
Public bug reported:

When playing a song with Rhythmbox, I can pause and resume the played
song using the controls on the Gnome-Shell indicator. However, pausing a
song does not toggle the control to resume (normally a triangle),
which is the expected behaviour, and stays on pause (2 vertical bars).
Pressing the control resumes the playback normally, which means the
functionality is not broken, just the icon changing that does not
happen.

I cannot reckon whether this was happening on the previous version 2.90.
Only noticed it after today's upgrade to 2.95.

Package: rhythmbox 2.95.5-0ubuntu1

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 948076] [NEW] nautilus usable options sometimes grayed out in right click menu

still selectionable.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 947031] Re: Rhythmbox becomes unresponsive when navigating through long song files using the progress bar

2012-03-05 Thread Ghislain Vaillant
I installed ubuntu-restricted-extras before using Rhythmbox, which
should have pulled all the gstreamer plugins (ffmpeg, bad, ugly and
fluendo). I double-checked my installation anyway, the gstreamer0.10
-plugins-ugly is installed.
