[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1371834] Re: Chrome causes segfault in i965_dri.so

2014-10-30 Thread william fischer
I tried the "fix" described in #3 and sure enough, I was able to use
Google Maps with Earth view. With out the export, it just Satellite view
and regular map view only.

  Chrome causes segfault in i965_dri.so

Status in Chromium Browser:
  Unknown
Status in “mesa” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in Debian GNU/Linux:
  New

Bug description:
Running chrome 38.0.2125.66-1 on Ubuntu 14.10, on Lenovo X230

When I start a new instance of chrome, it cannot enable WebGL. I have
reported that bug separately to chrome at
  https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=416207

I suspect the cause of the bug is in mesa, as dmesg contains evidence
  of a segfault:

The message seems harmless as far as the network is concerned, meaning
there is no problem with the wifi connection. But it's spamming the
syslog, making it very difficult to find any other thing there, and
it's generating constant writes to disk, and an unnecessarily large
  syslog file.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1235785] Re: "Light Display Manager" is offered as login option

2013-10-29 Thread william fischer
I had this issue when I upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10. After login, I
noticed that the my shutdown option didn't do anything, although I would
get a prompt upon pressing the power button. Anyway, I performed a clean
install of 13.10 (home is on a seperate partition and was left intact)
and the problem went way. My shutdown option in Unity was back again and
all was good... Until today, the Light Display Manager login came back.
I applied the work around of adding lightdm to the hidden user with no
effect. I read Mateusz's post (#22) and can confirm that I am
experiencing the same issue. That last thing I installed was
openjdk-7-doc yesterday. Strange...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1132215] Re: rhythmbox crashes when syncing library to ipod

2013-06-22 Thread william fischer
Forgot to mention, this is a fresh install with updates current to 22
Jun 2013. I am using an iPod Nano 5th 8Gb blue. The sync crash hosed my
music on the iPod. I had to re-initialized the iPod (wipe it) just to
get it working again. I still am not able to transfer music as Rhythmbox
keeps crashing.

  Confirmed

Bug description:
Certain applications, like DeVeDe or Openshot, use a simplified save
dialogue box. From these simplified lists, the user is presented with
some default directories to save in (Video, Desktop, Home, etc).
Selecting any of these destinations from this menu works as expected.
However, if the user wishes to save to some other location besides the
ones suggested, they must click on "Other..." which displays the full,
normal save dialogue. When this is used, it does not matter which
directory the user chooses - the application will save to the /HOME
  directory.

I have tested this using DeVeDe on Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit (fresh install)
and 12.10 32-bit (upgrade install). This *is not* a bug with DeVeDe,
but it was the first application I found that was using the simplified
save dialogue (and I also was able to reproduce this using Openshot,
which does the same thing). If the application uses the normal save
dialogue box, everything works as expected.

Please help me provide the information needed for this bug report. I
do not know what package to file this against, or what other
information that needs to be attached. It would also be helpful if
someone can reproduce this. I have not filed a bug report because I
did not know what to attach or what package to file against. Any help
  would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a video demonstrating the problem using DeVeDe. I tell DeVeDe
to export a video to my Desktop from the defaults menu, which works as
expected. I then tell it to save it to my Desktop, but using the
"Other..." menu. I would expect it to say that there's a file already
there with the same name, and offer to overwrite it. Instead, it saves
the file to my /Home directory.
