[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2009785] [NEW] WLAN functionality cannot be controlled any more
Public bug reported: After the latest upgrade and a reboot, the WLAN connectivity features have disappeared from the menu on the upper right hand side menu, and the system does not connect to the local WLAN at my home; in short: WLAN DOES NOT WORK ANY MORE (Luckily, Ethernet connectivity is still available so I can send this using USB tethering.) New, however is Bluetooth connectivity control. Turning this off, turns on airplane mode; turning airplane mode off returns the Bluetooth control menu entry. $ lspci -nnk -d::0280 02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1995201] Re: remote desktop screen sharing does not work
Thank you for your reply. Indeed i think the documentation needs much improvement. The reason i tried xrdp was that the "it just needs to be turned on in g-c-c" did not work. https://askubuntu.com/questions/1422263/rdp-on- ubuntu-desktop-22-04 was one of the hint i followed which led into the wrong direction. In the meantime i got things working on 2 of my 4 systems see https://askubuntu.com/a/1438504/129227 and i explicitly mentioned that the links i followed might be misleading (which is part of the problem). I might not be alone in misconfiguring the system due to it not working out of the box so it's probably better to change the status of this bug and do something about it instead of getting more frustrated people out there. Still two of my systems do not work properly and the messages from /var/syslog and other logs IMHO need much improvement in giving hints what to do. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to remmina in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1995201 Title: remote desktop screen sharing does not work Status in remmina package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2022/06/use-ipad-as-second-monitor- ubuntu-22-04 and https://www.reddit.com/r/gnome/comments/uz5as7/gnome_has_made_it_super_simple_to_extend_your/ https://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2022/04/ubuntu-22-04-remote- desktop-control/ advertise screen sharing via rdp on Ubuntu 22.04 and I hoped to be able to use it. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1995201] Re: remote desktop screen sharing does not work
Out of three Ubuntu 22.04 LTS target machines i got remote desktop working so far on just one. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1965535] Re: Stop recommending snap
+1 Agree with the other affected users. The project is not ready to be forced on Ubuntu users - maybe never will. Personally I have two main issues that I can not accept: 1) Forcing automatic software updates without user consent. 2) Putting a hardcoded visible folder into the user home directory without the option to change it. Wish Ubuntu all the best and am very thankful for being my go-to for 17+ years. May those executive decisions make Ubuntu appeal to a broader audience and bring on many new users. Me - personally - I'm expecting to sadly switch distribution with one of the next releases. Once uninstalling snap begins to affect the system in a mayor way. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-meta in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965535 Title: Stop recommending snap Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: Opinion Bug description: Currently, ubuntu recommends installing snap by default, and some apps are slowly transitioning from DEB-based installation to Snap-based installation. APT is great, and facilitates having a clean, maintainable system. The snap project is not very well designed or engineered (just changing the location of where snap data is located is taking the project more than 5 years because it was hardcoded: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snapd/+bug/1575053). Snaps are large and VERY slow. The design of snap, as well as the way that decisions are made, are very questionable, and are receiving increasing amounts of criticism. I'd like to request that Ubuntu stops recommending snap, stops transitioning towards snaps, and we come back to defaulting to DEB/APT-based installation for all apps. Original description: Binary package hint: unity The problem occurred on the Unity Launcher where you can't know for sure if the application is running or if it is just a shortcut. Since some minutes ago, Unity lost track of the running instance of my web browser (Chromium, I am using it right now). Every time I click on Chromium's icon I get a new instance instead of the running one. If I minimize any Chromium windows, the only way to reach them back is through Alt + Tab, since clicking the icon will give me a new window, as if it were not running. I would expect that clicking on the icon of the running application, it would restore the existing window instead of creating a new one, like what is happening right now with the other program I am using. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1430888] Re: DRI_PRIME with radeon/intel windows do not draw
I tried to reproduce the problem with glxgears. It can happen, but it is harder to reproduce than with steam. For steam it happens every time, for glxgears it only happened twice out of ~15 tries. But when it happens in glxgears, no "reporting 9 5 33 271" lines are added to Xorg.0.log, so I think these are two different issues. The compositing-enable trick also works for glx_gears. As far as I can tell the problem only happens with certain programs. I think it depends on whether or not OpenGL is used for drawing. For me it happens for *) Steam *) Games (both Steam and others like e.g. supertuxkart) *) glxgears It does not happen for typical office programs that use GUI toolkits like Qt or GTK, e.g. okular, gedit, etc. According to [1] Steam uses a custom toolkit called VGUI, which is also uses by their Source engine. Thus I would guess that it is also drawn using OpenGL. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1430888] Re: DRI_PRIME with radeon/intel windows do not draw
In my case, starting steam causes the text 'reporting 9 5 33 271' to be added to "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" three times. It's always printed twice in a row and again a few seconds later. For example these are two starts of steam: [ 17002.853] reporting 9 5 33 271 [ 17002.878] reporting 9 5 33 271 [ 17006.628] reporting 9 5 33 271 [ 17021.267] reporting 9 5 33 271 [ 17021.297] reporting 9 5 33 271 [ 17025.236] reporting 9 5 33 271 But this does happen with and without DRI_PRIME=1, so I don't know if it is related to this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1430888 Title: DRI_PRIME with radeon/intel windows do not draw Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm using Ubuntu 15.04 and Xorg version 1:7.7+7ubuntu2 Step to reproduce: start "DRI_PRIME=1 steam" (or any other complex 3D program like minecraft) What is expected: the program should show it's window(s), those should have the same content as if started without "DRI_PRIME". [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1430888] Re: DRI_PRIME with radeon/intel windows do not draw
This bug is already present in 14.10. My system is a HP Pavilion laptop with a muxless Intel/AMD combination (Intel Sandybridge HD graphics and AMD Radeon HD6770). A Workaround that works most of the time is to press Win+D again and again to switch between desktop and game application. After a few iterations the problem is usually gone: once a game (or steam) starts drawing, everything works fine. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 862559] Re: Does not set PAM_XDISPLAY and or XDISPLAY, XAUTHORITY variables
The following code writes this to /var/log/auth.log: -- ... PAM_SERVICE: lightdm. ... Have no PAM_TTY. ... Have now XDisplay: "(null)" and XAuth: "(null)". -- This is the pam_sm_authenticate function of the PAM module: PAM_EXTERN int pam_sm_authenticate(pam_handle_t *pamh, int flags, int argc, const char **argv) { const char *service = NULL; char* xdisp = getenv("DISPLAY"); char* xauth = getenv("XAUTHORITY"); // Requested service pam_get_item(pamh, PAM_SERVICE, (const void **)(const void*)&service); if (service != NULL && strlen(service) > 0) { syslog(LOG_DEBUG, "PAM_SERVICE: %s.", (const char*)service); } if (xdisp == NULL) {// Trying to get the xdisplay pam_get_item(pamh, PAM_XDISPLAY, (const void **)(const void*)&xdisp); if (xdisp == NULL) { pam_get_item(pamh, PAM_TTY, (const void **)(const void*)&xdisp); if (xdisp == NULL || strlen(xdisp) == 0) { syslog(LOG_DEBUG, "Have no PAM_TTY."); xdisp = NULL; } else { syslog(LOG_DEBUG, "Have PAM_TTY: %s.", xdisp); if(xdisp[0] != ':'){// looks not like a X-Display syslog(LOG_DEBUG, "Have no DISPLAY from PAM_TTY."); xdisp = NULL; } else{ syslog(LOG_DEBUG, "Have DISPLAY %s from PAM_TTY.", xdisp); setenv("DISPLAY", xdisp, -1); } } } else { syslog(LOG_DEBUG, "Have DISPLAY %s from pam_get_item.", xdisp); setenv("DISPLAY", xdisp, -1); } } else syslog(LOG_DEBUG, "Have DISPLAY %s from getenv.", xdisp); syslog(LOG_DEBUG, "Have now XDisplay: \"%s\" and XAuth: \"%s\".", xdisp, xauth); } This means none of the variables are set. The module cannot display it's widget. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/862559 Title: Does not set PAM_XDISPLAY and or XDISPLAY, XAUTHORITY variables Status in Light Display Manager: Triaged Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: If a PAM module with GUI interface for alternative authentication methods (like fingerprint authentication) is used, this module needs information about the xdisplay to connect to for showing up it's widget. Therefore PAM has two enviroment variables to be setup by the application before calling the "pam_authenticate" function. These variables are PAM_XDISPLAY and PAM_TTY, both to be set to the current display number (e.g. ":0"). Alternatively the environment variables XDISPLAY and XAUTHORITY can be set, so the PAM module can get the information by calling "getenv()". [Desktop-packages] [Bug 788300] Re: Brasero create non-readable data disc
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 780117 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/780117 I've been bitten by this problem too: I burned a data DVD with Brasero, only to find (a few weeks later) that I cannot read it. Brasero's behaviour (exiting successfully while the DVD is utterly useless) is quite... unfortunate. I can't start to check up after all programs when they told me everything is fine whether that *really* is the case (!!). As you can tell, I'm rather angry since it seems I'll be losing data that's important to me due to this bug. I don't know much about the business of writing DVDs/CDs, so I would really appreciate any and all pointers on how I might go about salvaging some of the discs contents. Thanks! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to brasero in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/788300 Title: Brasero create non-readable data disc Status in “brasero” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: brasero I launch Brasero in order to create a data disc with a DVD+RW on my Dell 1525 N laptop (which is fully linux compatible).
