[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1826597] Re: Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia drivers

2020-04-23 Thread zob
Thanks Nikolay. I'm not sure that what you link to is related. That
sounds much worse. My PC wasn't bricked. I just couldn't use the
touchpad if I also chose to install the Nvidia driver.

Title:
Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia
  drivers

Status in xserver-xorg-input-libinput package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:

On a Lenovo Thinkpad P50 with a Synaptics touchpad, the touchpad (or
trackpoint), does not respond to any input after installing ubuntu 19.04.

The same machine has been working fine with ubuntu 16.04 and 18.10. To
be more correct it is still working in 16.04 hwe which I'm dual
  booting.

If I uninstall the nvidia drivers (right now 418.56-0ubuntu1), and
replace with noveau drivers it works just fine (by the way there seems
to be no other issues with the nvidia driver as of yet).

I have also the nvidia-driver-390 also suggested in the graphical
software updates tool, to no avail.

I will attach relevant logs. Please let me know if there is more I should
supply.
And thanks for all your hard (and brilliant) work.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1826597] Re: Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia drivers

2020-04-12 Thread zob
Ok. So I finally found a viable workaround (or fix). In BIOS the GPU
must be set to "Hybrid Graphics" NOT "Discrete".

This fixed my issues with running nvdia-drivers and using my touchpad at
the same time in ubuntu 20.04.

Ahh. Actually xinput now (with kubuntu-desktop installed) now has
registered my touchpad as a standard mouse it seems (I don't have
multitouch functionality, so no two-finger scrolling, etc).

$ xinput list

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1826597] Re: Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia drivers

2020-04-12 Thread zob
I though I might experiment a little. I installed xubuntu-desktop with the
lightdm display manager. Didn't work either. Then I installed kubuntu-desktop
with sddm display manger and the suddenly my touchpad started working.
I then did a dpkg-reconfigure gdm3, rebooted and logged back into the
"standard" gnome session. And now my touchpad is working with the Nvidia
drivers installed and working. I have no clue why but, to resume, there are 2
workarounds:
1: use nouveau drivers instead of nvidia
2: install kubuntu-desktop (and log into ubuntu-desktop or whatever floats your
boat).

This also indicates that it's "just" a config issue somewhere.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1868474] Re: Lenovo ThinkPad P73 touchpad does not work *after* installation

2020-04-12 Thread zob
Hi D.

Can you try uninstalling the nvidia-drivers from the "Additional
Drivers" interface, just by choosing the nouveau drivers. Then reboot.
Does the touchpad work now?

Then you might have a similar issue as I do on the P50:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-libinput/+bug/1826597

Bug description:
The installation scripts loads the correct drivers so the touch pad

  neither work.

I've worked around it by using a wireless USB from Vilros for mouse input
while logging in. Then issuing (found on
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1143663):
   sudo 'echo -n "elantech">/sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/protocol'

So it's a bug for me but one I can work around and should be fixed before
20.04 goes live.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1826597] Re: Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia drivers

2020-04-12 Thread zob
I just tested installing the Nvidia binaries directly from the web-site. That
did not fix the issue with the non-functional touchpad either.
That was the driver version 440.82

Yes. This is still an issue on the P50, same machine as above.
Now on kernel: 5.4.0-21-generic
xserver-xorg-input-libinput v. 0.29.0-1

And I've tested with the 3 different Nvidia drivers listed in the additional
drivers interface.
That would be nvidia-drivers:
440.64-0ubuntu3
435.21-0ubuntu7
390.132-0ubuntu2

As before, touchpad and trackpoint work just fine with noveau drivers
and mesa.

If you have this error @Simon and @Nikolay, please choose the "This bug
affects me" at the top of the page.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1826597] Re: Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia drivers

2019-04-27 Thread zob
I just tested against the mainline kernel: 5.1.0-050100rc6-generic
#201904211830 SMP Sun Apr 21 18:33:49 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
GNU/Linux

This didn't work - or rather there was an error building with dkms and
nvidia (so actually it works, but that's because I'm back on noveau
drivers, which also work on the standard kernel).

I've attached the make.log.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1826597] Re: Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia drivers

2019-04-26 Thread zob
Btw adding synaptic_intertouch=0 to the parameters at boot doesn't
change anything.

Title:
Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia
  drivers

Status in xserver-xorg-input-libinput package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:

trackpoint), does not respond to any input after installing ubuntu 19.04.

I will attach relevant logs. Please let me know if there is more I should
supply.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1767388] [NEW] Sometimes cannot login to graphical environment.

2018-04-27 Thread zob
Public bug reported:

On 18.04
gdm3 3.28.0-0ubuntu1
4.15.0-20-generic

I suspect it is related to gdm3, but not sure.
On freshly installed final release of bionic, I somtimes cannot login to gnome
desktop. It is always preceeded by failed login attempt even though password is
correct.

I can switch to a virtual console, but nothing happens when trying to
switch back to graphical CTRL+ALT+F7 - stays in console.

It seems that sudo /etc/init.d/gdm3 restart might fix the problem, but I
havn't tested extensively yet.

Note also that when the problem occurs there is no XDG_SESSION choices
available on the login screen. The "settings" icon next to the login
button is gone. After this an attempt to login with correct password
will fail, and the second attempt to login with take me to the blank
screen + cursor situation described above.

I can't say how to reproduce. On my machine it happens 50% of the times.

Just tested this with the kernel from vivid (3.18rc2):
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.18-rc2-vivid/

On my system the bug is no longer present in that kernel, i.e. Chrome
38+ doesn't segfault when opening chrome webshop.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1371834] Re: Chrome causes segfault in i965_dri.so

2014-11-08 Thread zob
Ok. Just tested quite a few kernels.
Chrome 38+ does not segfault when browsing to chrome webshop with the following:
linux-image-3.16.0-031600-generic
linux-image-3.16.1-031601-generic
linux-image-3.16.7-031607-generic
linux-image-3.17.1-031701-generic
linux-image-3.18.0-031800rc2-generic

Chrome 38+ segfaults when browsing to chrome webshop with the following:
linux-image-3.15.10-031510-generic
linux-image-3.13.0-39-generic
linux-image-3.13.0-32-generic
and with every other kernel that I have tested with a version number lower than
that.

Now someone can probably say something more intelligent about when it
was patched. I'm just a trial and error kind of guy.

NB: Chrome 37 and older does not crash with any of these kernels when
browsing to chrome webshop.

This happens in chrome-stable 38.0.2125.111-1, chrome-beta
39.0.2171.52-1, and chrome unstable 40.0.2209.0-1 when browsing chrome
webstore (with this graphics card).

It does not happen when browsing chrome webstore with chromium
37.0.2062.120 or firefox 33.

  However:
Software-center 13.05-0ubuntu1 in saucy has some strange menu entries.

For instance in the edit menu there are all kinds of gtk-undo, gtk-redo,
gtk-copy, gtk-delete. Probably originating in some kind of
template of how a gtk edit menu should look, but those entries should
probably be removed in software-center.

Great. Thanks again.
I don't think I can recreate what caused the bad config. Mainly because, I
can't recall having even opened libreoffice before on this install, much less
having changed the config.
If the bad config should return, I shall be more thorough in my examination.
Thanks.

Title:
libreoffice-writer close, minimize and maximize buttons not showing

Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Running 13.04 in virtualbox.
Problem is that the close, minimize and maximize buttons do not show up in
libreoffice-writer, nor does it react as expected when dragging the top bar. I
can't drag it anywhere, can't drag to maximize or drag to minimize. In fact, I
can't drag it at all.
The strange thing is that all of this works in libreoffice-impress and
libreoffice-calc.

I used ubuntu-bug libreoffice-writer to report, so I hope most of
the additional details you need was attached automagically. Otherwise
  please let me know.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 527938] Re: Writer crashes on Tools-Bibliography without libreoffice-base

2012-05-15 Thread zob
Sorry Christopher.
I was trying to give you as much information as possible to work with.
So best practice with crash files is always to make a separate bug report,
unless I am the OP, is that it?
Thanks again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 527938] Re: Writer crashes on Tools-Bibliography without libreoffice-base

2012-03-26 Thread zob
I can still make it crash in ubuntu 12.04 beta i386, with libreoffice
1:3.5.1-1ubuntu1.
To reproduce: try to make bibliography.
Only difference from the old crash is that the old crash happened instantly.
This time it hangs for a while (greyed out) and then crashes.

I wanted to copy-paste from the ubuntu-bug report, but that doesn't seem to be
possible.
I doesn't allow me to file a new bug, because it's already here.
