[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1045718] Re: [Xerox Phaser 3155] Requires USB unplug & replug every few minutes

2017-11-04 Thread Till Kamppeter
Comment #24 is still valid, otherwise we cannot fix this problem:

Shahar Or, Andrin, Connie, and everyone else who has this problem and
solved it with a command line like in comment #21, please paste the
output of the "lsusb" command here (with your printer connected and
turned on) and also tell which printer model you are using and which
option(s) you have set ("-o usb-no-reattach-default=true" and/or "-o
usb-unidir-default=true"). Thanks.

2017-11-04 Thread Connie
I had the same problem.
Ubuntu 16.04, Xerox Phaser 3140.
"lpadmin -p -o usb-no-reattach-default=true" solved the problem.

Yes, apparently, these options are consistent through restarting cups.
So for me, as well, usb-no-reattach worked around the issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1045718] Re: [Xerox Phaser 3155] Requires USB unplug replug every few minutes

2012-11-19 Thread Shahar Or
Till,
Is there any chance that those 'lpadmin -o' commands set options permanently
(survive after the cups service dies)?
I'm asking because - the funniest thing - the problem went away and it is
consistent between reboots. I do not experience this bug any more.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1045718] Re: [Xerox Phaser 3155] Requires USB unplug replug every few minutes

2012-09-13 Thread Till Kamppeter
Can you also do the following:

In a terminal window, run the command

lpadmin -p printer -o usb-unidir-default=true

with printer being the name of your printer as displayed by the
lpstat -p command.

Now turn off and turn on your printer, then try to print several jobs.
Does this solve the problem?

If not,

run

lpadmin -p printer -R usb-unidir-default

and then

lpadmin -p printer -o usb-no-reattach-default=true

Again, turn off and turn on your printer, then try to print several
jobs. Does this solve the problem?

If not, try

lpadmin -p printer -o usb-no-reattach-default=true
lpadmin -p printer -o usb-unidir-default=true

and turn off and turn on your printer, then try to print several jobs.
Does this solve the problem?

Please tell what works for you.

If nothing works, reset all to defaults via

lpadmin -p printer -R usb-no-reattach-default
lpadmin -p printer -R usb-unidir-default

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1045718] Re: [Xerox Phaser 3155] Requires USB unplug replug every few minutes

2012-09-13 Thread Till Kamppeter
If my instructions of comment #15 do not lead to the solution of this
problem, try the following:

sudo dpkg -P --force-depends system-config-printer-udev

Then turn off and turn on your printer and test again several jobs. Is
printing working all the time now?

If not, return to the old state via

sudo apt-get install -f system-config-printer-udev

Then try

sudo chmod -x /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp
sudo chmod -x /usr/lib/cups/backend/hpfax

Now turn off and turn on your printer again and test again several jobs.
Is printing working for all jobs now?

If not, return to the original state via

sudo chmod +x /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp
sudo chmod +x /usr/lib/cups/backend/hpfax

Also try to boot a live CD of Ubuntu 12.10 (beta1). Does printing work
correctly then?

  Incomplete

My printer requires me to unplug and replug it into the system once in

accepted or processed but not printed actually.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1045718] Re: [Xerox Phaser 3155] Requires USB unplug replug every few minutes

2012-09-12 Thread Shahar Or
Hi! I got him good this time :)

Attached is the error_log with the following:

near the end of it should be logged the following:

I've printed a test job - successful.
Then I had three failed print jobs consecutively.
Then I unplugged the USB and replugged.
Then I printed the same document successfully*.

This behavior is consistent, as I described. After the unplug and replug
I have successful print jobs. After a while of inactivity, they fail.
Perhaps they would fail also after a while *with* activity but I've not
the intention to try that, as it might require too much paper and toner.

Oh, and about /var/log/messages, my system doesn't have that file.
Should it?

*When I say the same document I meant that it is not actually the same
file but it should be quite similar because it is a printing of a web
page in Firefox. All of the three failed attempts are this same page and
the following successful one, after the unplugreplug is this same page,
too.

** Attachment added: error_log of failed attempts at debug level
