Till, Is there any chance that those 'lpadmin -o' commands set options permanently (survive after the cups service dies)? Can you also do the following: In a terminal window, run the command lpadmin -p printer -o usb-unidir-default=true with printer being the name of your printer as displayed by the lpstat -p command. Now turn off and turn on your printer, then try to print several jobs. Does this solve the problem? If my instructions of comment #15 do not lead to the solution of this problem, try the following: sudo dpkg -P --force-depends system-config-printer-udev Then turn off and turn on your printer and test again several jobs. Is printing working all the time now? Is printing working for all jobs now? If not, return to the original state via sudo chmod +x /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp sudo chmod +x /usr/lib/cups/backend/hpfax Also try to boot a live CD of Ubuntu 12.10 (beta1). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1045718] Re: [Xerox Phaser 3155] Requires USB unplug replug every few minutes
Hi! I got him good this time :) Attached is the error_log with the following: near the end of it should be logged the following: I've printed a test job - successful. Then I had three failed print jobs consecutively. Then I unplugged the USB and replugged. Then I printed the same document successfully*. This behavior is consistent, as I described. After the unplug and replug I have successful print jobs. After a while of inactivity, they fail. Perhaps they would fail also after a while *with* activity but I've not the intention to try that, as it might require too much paper and toner. Oh, and about /var/log/messages, my system doesn't have that file. Should it? *When I say the same document I meant that it is not actually the same file but it should be quite similar because it is a printing of a web page in Firefox. All of the three failed attempts are this same page and the following successful one, after the unplugreplug is this same page, too. ** Attachment added: error_log of failed attempts at debug level https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1045718/+attachment/3310562/+files/error_log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to cups in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045718 Title: [Xerox Phaser 3155] Requires USB unplug replug every few minutes Status in “cups” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: My printer requires me to unplug and replug it into the system once in a short while.
