I'd like to point out that when you open the Dash, there are Close,
Minimise and Maximise buttons on the top-left part of the screen.
Pressing Maximise makes the Ubuntu Dash use all of the available screen
space, and your choice is then persistent even when you log out and back
in.

Title:
Unity Dash Is Too Small for Its Exclusivity

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Once launched, the Unity Dash is completely exclusive (you can't do
any other application task while it is open).

So WHY then, is it not using the entire screen (like GNOME3 Activity
  Menu does)?

If you can't do anything else anyway (while you are using the Unity
dash), why not use all the screen real-estate available, given that
the Unity dash is already very cumbersome for "surveying applications"
(meaning: just looking through all the applications you have
  installed).

Utilising this extra screen space would result in less scrolling,
because more applications would be displayed at any given time.

I have over 325 applications that (In Unity) are NOT hierarchically
categorised (without cumbersome filter button steps)!

I remember back in Ubuntu 7.04, when I did a screen cast where I showed all
the applications that were in Ubuntu's menus:
  http://www.lonniebest.com/UbuntuInstall

This is what I mean by "Surveying the Applications You Have". Unity
Dash is way less friendly to new users than that was (above) in Ubuntu
7.04. But at this point I'm going beyond the scope of this bug report.
