Disconnect the drive. 2. Log out of your account, or lock the screen. 3. Connect the drive. 4. Log-in. On my machine, in this case, Deja-Dup wins the race and mounts the Drive. Now Gnome complains that it cannot mount the drive becauase it is already in use. I added deja-dup to the bug-report so that this appears in *their* bugtracker and not the ubuntu-packages. I'm sure this is a race condition. I get the error when I plug in my slow external HDD. Leaving it plugged in I trigger the backups again by pluggin in another USB device. It still happens to me (just now) on 12.10 64bit.
