[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1125011] Re: screen save still active after being disabled

2013-09-16 Thread fyo
Running latest 13.10 daily.

This appears to be a very simple bug in gnome-settings-center where the
Never option is plain broken.

The behavior is easy to verify by using dconf-editor.

Setting theTurn screen off when inactive for: variable to any of the
other options updates a variable called idle-delay in
gnome::desktop::session. Selecting 10 minutes, for example, sets the
value to 600. An hour to 3600.

Selecting Never doesn't change the variable.

Manually changing the idle-delay value to 0 results in the expected
Never behavior.

Presumably, this is what the Never option should do, although
disabling the gnome::desktop::screensaver::idle-activation-enabled
bool would accomplish the same thing.

Related, gnome-settings-center doesn't correctly check the idle-delay
value and simply sets the combobox to Never when the Brightness Lock
screen is entered.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1125011] Re: screen save still active after being disabled

2013-09-16 Thread fyo
This appears fixed (in that the idle-delay is correctly set) after
applying today's updates to 13.10 daily. The combobox still does
defaults to showing Never.

That is, selecting Never now changes the idle-delay value to 0, as
expected.

The patch set contained updates to gnome-control-center
(3.6.3-0ubuntu37) as well as gnome-settings-daemon (3.8.5-0ubuntu3).
None of the changes stand out as likely candidates, so I'm unable to
explain what fixed the issue for me.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1125011] Re: screen save still active after being disabled

2013-02-14 Thread aaron
** Description changed:

On a remote machine, no keyboard or mouse connected. Set up to auto
login and start a browser in kiosk mode as a monitoring dash board for
  our office.

The only way to enable this to run for the whole day is to connect a
keyboard and break out of the screen save when it first runs. After that
it will not go into the screen saver for the rest of the day.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1125011] Re: screen save still active after being disabled

2013-02-14 Thread aaron
Tried all of these settings none of them worked. I am going to try down
grading the kernel from
uname -a
Linux monitor-dash 3.5.0-23-generic #35~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 25 17:15:33
UTC 2013 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Going to try these changes in dconf to see which setting is causing the
issue.

http://askubuntu.com/questions/207131/screensaver-blanking-problem
http://askubuntu.com/questions/67355/how-do-i-completely-turn-off-screensaver-and-power-management

dconf dump / | grep lock
lock-screensaver-on-audio=false
lock-enabled=false
ubuntu-lock-on-suspend=false
numlock-state='on'
xtech@monitor-dash:~$ dconf dump / | grep power
[com/canonical/indicator/power]
[org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/power]
xtech@monitor-dash:~$ dconf dump / | grep sleep
sleep-display-ac=0
sleep-display-battery=0
xtech@monitor-dash:~$ dconf dump / | grep idle
idle-activation-enabled=false
idle-delay=uint32 0
xtech@monitor-dash:~$ dconf dump / | grep timeout
xtech@monitor-dash:~$ dconf dump / | grep battery
sleep-display-battery=0

tried these settings with xset
http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=13990

xset s 0
xset s noexpose
xset s noblank
xset -dpms

Have installed caffeine to try and fix this problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1125011] Re: screen save still active after being disabled

2013-02-14 Thread aaron
This is possibly a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1046118

I have updated to all the latest version of unity, lightdm, gdm settings,
kernel.
This was still causing issues.

Downgraded kernel from
uname -a
Linux 3.5.0-23-generic #35~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 25 17:15:33 UTC 2013
i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

To the latest generic which has fixed this issue. I am going to add this
bug to the Linux 3.5.0-23 bug profile.

uname -srvpio
Linux 3.2.0-37-generic-pae #58-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jan 24 15:51:02 UTC 2013 i686
i386 GNU/Linux
