Closing for project 'inkscape' - likely a known issue with old gtk2
version available on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (2.24.10), see comment #5.

Feel free to reopen if the same printing problem reproduces with current
inkscape (0.91) and a more recent version of gtk2 (>= 2.24.15).

Bug description:
  following standard procedures for printing. (File, print, select
  printer, all pages, 1 copy) I press the print button and the print is
  queued but nothing happens, wait half an hour at most. The only
  solution I found, is to select the print preview and print the job
  from there ... This does work, but it is the only way to print from
  inkscape (using the Epson Stylus Office TX600FW connected to a wifi
  router.

  ram 3,9 GiB
  Hard Disk 1 TB

  Other programs Like Gimp, Open office etc print fine

Could be related to upstream bug in GTK+ (affected versions: 2.24.9-2.24.14):
- Bug #998156 “GTK Print dialog sends broken custom page size attribute: 
"PageSize=Custom.Custom.x"”
 

You could check the print error log for the mentioned detail
('Custom.Custom' substring in the 'PageSize' command line argument).
