We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu and Thunderbird since that time. As of today in Ubuntu 19.04, installing xul-ext-lightning makes the calendar work in thunderbird, I suspect what happened at the time this bug was reported is that thunderbird and the lightning extension got out of sync. Thunderbird now ships lightning by default, so we are going to reflect that in the packaging, meaning such a situation should never happen again. I can confirm this bug. It helped, adding the following line to section [ExtensionDirs] to extensions.ini in my profile directory: /usr/lib/thunderbird-addons/extensions/ After that, the new lightning extension got recognized and the extensions.ini. In my system /usr/lib/thunderbird/extensions is indeed a real directory and not a symlink; it is also empty. I suppose that some addon packages may have left it during the update. I just tested on another box that has the same addons installed but is still at version 17.
