It's not a duplicate nm-applet icon, rather the next-gen indicator- network (currently only used on the phone). Yes, none of those packages are in use on a traditional unity7 desktop. This doesn't just happen in lxpanel, I have a similar issue in Unity. This is an upgrade from 13.10.
