I've been seeing this error since I came from Unity(Ubuntu 14.04) to Gnome. I solved this problem trying this steps: $ sudo apt-get install lightdm-gtk-greeter $ sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade $ sudo reboot Then my entire login interface changed(the options of interfaces moved to top right), but not to worry, they still there. Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1272859] Re: unity-greeter crashed with signal 5 in atspi_dbus_connection_setup_with_g_main()
The upgrade as suggested by Rob may or may not help with this bug. I advise that once you upgrade, you keep a look out for further unity- greeter crashes. I am personally unable to reproduce this bug with the upgrade, although I had a hard time reproducing it even with the version of at-spi2-core in trusty proper, so further testing is welcome.
