Title:
nm-applet periodically crashes in MATE desktop

Status in network-manager-applet package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I have nm-applet connected to a WIFI network every day. It disappears from
the panel every now and then, perhaps 1-4 times a day.
I am not sure if this happens on all desktops of 14.04, or just MATE. It also
happens on my Linux Mint computer running MATE and network-manager, so I am
inclined to believe it happens with network-manager-applet.
