PPA package is also working in an eoan QEMU/KVM vm which was locking up with the standard packages. I also ran into a lockup problem on the ISO file when installing. I had this issue in VM consistently when loggin in with Xorg. No problems with Wayland. Tried the patch from above ppa and it appears to have solved problem. The clock continues to tell the right time, and the mouse moves around the screen and is repainted correctly.
