I installed 21.04 on X1 Nano, I found it used gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng by default. I can confirm that the fix works: Previously if I edited any text file on the Desktop, a lot of icons disappeared. I could reproduce this consistently and I reproduced this once more before updating the package.
