[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1887793] Re: [snap] chromium unable to launch

2022-06-19 Thread udippel
I *think* this affects me, too.
I put a shortcut on my Plasma Desktop. Clicking it, SOMETIMES Chrome doesn't
start. The icon activates for a partial second, nothing. Clicking again won't
help. Then I'll have to open a shell and type "chromium"; and then it will
start.

Snap packages don't have any debug symbols.

You could install the chromium deb and dbgsym, then reproduce and share
the gdb backtrace from your core file?

Unfortunately if you have to manually delete some caches it's not a
proper fix, merely a workaround. I'm glad it solved the problem for you,
but let's keep this bug open to track the issue and hopefully get to the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1887793] Re: [snap] chromium unable to launch

2020-07-17 Thread Mattias Wernér
Workaround is effective. From what I recall the effects are only
temporary though.

Title:
  [snap] chromium unable to launch

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Updated the chromium snap yesterday, latest/stable (1229). Today from
  a fresh boot, it won't launch.

  ```
  mattias@cerebus:~$ chromium
  Gtk-Message: 10:04:38.060: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
  Gtk-Message: 10:04:38.061: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
  Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)
  ```

  Using snap revert it goes back to latest/stable (1213), and works
  perfectly.

  Refreshing back to 1229 reproduces the issue.

2020-07-17 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Thanks Mattias. Could you also try the suggested workaround at
https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/chromium-snap-kernel-has-no-file-
descriptor-comparison-support-operation-not-permitted/18921/2 and let us
know whether this "fixes" the problem for you too?
