Public bug reported: After a recent update of pulseaudio and related packages to 13.99.1-1ubuntu3.8 on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS, audio via HDMI output became crackling and distorted, rendering my monitor speakers unusable. This is particularly frustrating because I cannot seem to roll back the update without uninstalling a good chunk of gnome(!)
