Ok so this looks to be the same as https://github.com/storaged- project/udisks/pull/926 which was fixed upstream - and according to the comment there causes exactly the type of issue we are seeing: "leading to memory corruption causing random failures of further atexit handlers such as cryptsetup and openssl destructors."
