[Desktop-packages] [Bug 500367]

This bug is still a problem and is not solved. Thunderbird should be
forced to use the standard mimetypes, eg. defined on
http://www.sitepoint.com/web-foundations/mime-types-complete-list/
instead of using probably wrong saved ones in the mimetypes.rdf

Title:
Thunderbird sends .doc attachments with wrong mime-type
  (text/richtext)

Status in Mozilla Thunderbird Mail and News:
  Expired
Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: thunderbird

Summary: Thunderbird should eliminate bad entries in the mimeTypes.rdf
file, especially the one that in some cases links .doc files with the
  mime-type "text/richtext".

  Longer explanation:
Attaching .doc documents (MS word format, can also be saved by
OpenOffice.org) causes the (binary) contents of the file to be displayed inline
(like body text): plenty of weird characters, hundreds of question marks etc
(see below B.).

Primary reason: In (my and other people's) mimeTypes.rdf, there is an
entry that makes TB think that .doc files are of the mime-type
  "text/richtext", instead of "application/msword" (see below A.).
"text/richtext" attachments are displayed inline, "application/msword"
  attachments not.

  Removing the tag doc and
  restarting TB fixes the problem.

This does NOT happen with a fresh profile, because it does not contain
the corrupt entry. But still, users suffering from this problem should
be helped automatically. The GUI does not offer a solution for this,
  as far as I know.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 500367]

2015-03-11 Thread Fabian-kessler-2
I have found a lot of bug reports since 2006 that describe the same
problem in the core. The most are ignored or reported as duplicate. But
noone whanted to fix it. Another report is the Bug 503309 which contains
more informations and a hint how to solve this problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 500367]

2015-03-11 Thread Rkent-3
There is clearly some sort of issue in Thunderbird that I see in support
requests all of the time, that sent messages have odd mimetypes because
of presumably unexpected changes to mimeTypes.rdf. Is that this bug, or
is there another that tracks this?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 500367] Looks like this is fixed.

2012-02-26 Thread Daniel Gnoutcheff
Judging from my quick test, the root cause of this bug is fixed. I just
saved a .jpg attachment from an e-mail with mime headers that
incorrectly claim that the image is an FLV video, and I selected "Do
this automatically for files like this from now on". In the past, it
seems this would cause mimeTypes.rdf to be infected with an entry that
claimed that files ending in .jpg where FLV videos, and thunderbird
would proceed to use that association when sending .jpg attachments.
But now, with thunderbird version 10.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.11.10.1,
mimeTypes.rdf remains unaffected.

So, I think we can close this bug, unless we want to do an SRU or
something. (The bug is gone in oneiric, I don't know about other Ubuntu
versions.) If you have bugzilla.mozilla.org account, I think you can
close the upstream one as well.

It seems that the message you replied to was imported by launchpad from
the upstream bugzilla.mozilla.org entry. Launchpad doesn't have a
"worksforme" resolution, but bugzilla does.
