  the remote server as default route) the empathy connection is lost ,
  though the task bar doesn't report this and the status remains as
  online. This happens even in mid-conversation.

yeah man i was having this issue , when i was connecting to my office the
empathy does not reconnect. i have formatted my pc now , but this was the
issue in that time .
