[Desktop-packages] [Bug 839767] Re: Saved wireless networks/VPNs unavailable after Oneric upgrade

2012-05-05 Thread bojo42
I also had this issue with precise (coming from lucid) and needed to do
a manual migration. For my workaround see

migration

Saved wireless networks/VPNs unavailable after Oneric upgrade

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I just upgraded to Oneric (via update-manager -d), and now my saved
network passwords and vpns are no long available. I can connect to
wireless networks and re-enter passwords, and they persist (they show
up in the 'Edit Connections' dialog), but the old networks do not. I
do see the new networks in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 839767] Re: Saved wireless networks/VPNs unavailable after Oneric upgrade

2011-10-20 Thread Gabe Gorelick
I just got this bug when I updated to oneiric. Is there a way to
manually do the migration from the gconf settings (as previously asked)?
It's very frustrating to have to re-enter every network, especially when
you don't have easy access to the wireless password.

It's still unclear what kind of setting causes migration to fail. Could
somebody having this problem report back here or file a new bug about
their configuration and hopefully include the gconf keys which should
get migrated?

(oriolpont) i can't help with that anymore.

But I can say, that after the upgrade my first login failed and i had to

nm-applet is supposed to do that for you, but it appearently doesn't
work in this case.

There is enough information here to try to reproduce the migration
issues, so I'll mark this Triaged/Medium and work on trying to get this
tested, to find out which part cannot be migrated.

to trigger the migration, you can open gconf-editor and set apps/nm-
applet/stamp to 2. This should migrate the network settings (and reset
then stamp to 3 automatically)

Title:
Saved wireless networks/VPNs unavailable after Oneric upgrade

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I just upgraded to Oneric (via update-manager -d), and now my saved
network passwords and vpns are no long available. I can connect to
wireless networks and re-enter passwords, and they persist (they show
up in the 'Edit Connections' dialog), but the old networks do not. I
do see the new networks in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections.
What's strange is that is see the old connections and vpns in gconf-
editor under /system/network/connections. Was there something that was
supposed to run and migrate these settings out of gconf?
