Can confirm on Ubuntu, Arch and Manjaro. Happens with both gnome- terminal and terminator. It's been happening for quite some time (~ 2 years). I am subject to the same bug. The first time I move gnome-terminal it will resize. On a side note: this also happens on my Arch Linux installation where I use Terminator. I found a workaround to though: In the options disable the window geometry hints in the preferences. Try if the workaround for bug 787465 fixes it for you (sudo apt-get purge appmenu-gtk appmenu-gtk3, re-login).
