[Desktop-packages] [Bug 881807] Re: Network manager requires the wrong number of characters for the WPA password

2011-10-26 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Is that network really being detected as WPA when you get the prompt for
a password?

I'm guessing it doesn't really specify what type of password it's
looking for, so it would be helpful if you could edit the connections,
select the one you're trying to activate and make sure it's properly set
to WPA (personal) and that you can enter the password in the
accompanying field.

At first glance what appears to happen is that you're being asked for a
WEP password instead, which will work for 5 characters, 13 (IIRC), and
then some other value. WPA passwords will usually have a minimum of 8
characters.

To get additional data, it might also help if you enable debugging on
wpasupplicant; then reproduce the issue. You can do this in the
following way:

1) Run the two following commands:
sudo dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=fi.w1.wpa_supplicant1
/fi/w1/wpa_supplicant1 org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Set
string:fi.w1.wpa_supplicant1 string:DebugTimestamp variant:boolean:true

sudo dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=fi.w1.wpa_supplicant1
/fi/w1/wpa_supplicant1 org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Set
string:fi.w1.wpa_supplicant1 string:DebugLevel variant:string:"msgdump"

2) Reproduce the issue by trying to activate the connection

Then attach /var/log/syslog to this bug report.

Thanks in advance!
