Ok, otherwise we would have the "problem" where to send the reply-to ;)

It is just a feeling. Our infrastructure people are pretty much under
pressure and I doubt they'd want to add more on their plate.
Furthermore I don't know whether the ASF is ever going to use a dvcs -
and if we do, whether it would be git.

You could certainly ask the infra folks for a definitive answer.

It may be easier to setup a Solaris zone for Ant where a few of us
could get root access to host it there.

That would be a different vote, but my understanding was that a single
dev list was only acceptable to the majority if we split the commit
mails into a separate list.

Would be the case.

If you look at the ivy-commits list for example, it is configured with
Reply-To headers pointing to the ivy-dev list.

I had quite some time back gotten Ter(ence Parr) to
agree to host future versions of any ANTLR task. I
would say we can stick with the one we have as a
matter of necessity only. FWIW, antlr2.org is now the
site for ANTLR 2.x stuff. We should probably add
something to the task doc to emphasize that it does
not work with ANTLR 3. AFAIK the command-line options
are different enough that trying to make the task
handle both would be a real PITA. Not to mention the
fact that the meta-grammar is completely changed which
means existing dependency calculation logic probably
wouldn't work either. Finally, ANTLR 3 actually
provides some hooks for tools to get generated
artifact names so that the kind of kludgery in our
task doesn't have to take place.

RE: [VOTE] Create a Separate Mailing List for Commits/Bugzilla/Gump ...

2007-10-22 Thread Gilles Scokart
What we did in the mailing list was that all mail sent automatically to the
commit list had a reply-to address pointing
to the dev mailing list.

/mnt/crypt is a local device mounted with encryption.

I do not think that this is due to mounted file systems.
(despite the /mnt/crypt in the bug report).
The follows gives me with trunk ant.

I added some debug statements to the ant code (version 1.7.0), it showed that
the granularity was 1000ms.

I added some debug statements into the DependSet class, it showed that the files
res.getLastModified() was around 500ms old compared to the
System.currentTimeMillis() used when creating the Date selector. I don't think
it should warn in that case, but it does.

Perhaps the granularity should be set to zero when generating the warning about
files from the future.

> 3. what does the clock test in ant -diagnostics print?

The only thing I could find about clock in that output was:
Temp dir alignment with system clock is -413 ms

Running the diagnostics a lot of times gives me numbers from around -300ms to
-1100ms, but most were around -800ms.

On windows NT this has already happened quite some time ago (1 ms).

The whole thing about filesystem granularity is trouble; it is worse on windows.

e warn about clock differences because if you have a network mounted disk on a
different clock, you are in deep trouble.

1. selectors have a granularity of 0s on unix these days, I think. Now
that Ant on DOS is NT only, we could perhaps tighten the 2s rule for windows,
and allow some property to set the default granularity if you still build on FAT
filesystems.

2. what does an ls -l of the specific files show, compared to the original
file.?
3. what does the clock test in ant -diagnostics print?

Re: svn commit: r586283 - /ant/core/branches/ANT_17_BRANCH/build.xml

2007-10-22 Thread Peter Reilly
There is no compile time dependency on antlr classes
in the optional ANTLR task ;- so one could use java.lang.Object
as the test class to see if one can compile it.
