in 1.7 this would be trivial for a (developer) user to implement by extending
. Since all tasks for which it makes sense support resourcecollections,
the resulting type would automatically be supported.

If filesets, etc, were to allow a "pathref=" or "path=", in stead of "dir=",
that would be a pretty good start.

The expected behavior would be similar to the SOURCEPATH behavior -- find the
first unique filename on the path.

To make this applicable in the maximum number of places, it were probably best
to have a special tag a la . The difference being that
never yields the same basename twice:

When you use a vpath instead of a path, of "SomeName.ext" is located in source/,
then the copy of SomeName.ext in othersource/ is not reported.

I presume you are referring to Lucent's nmake (as opposed to Microsoft's nmake)?

How would you see this working in Ant's context?

As for "INCREMENTAL BUILDS", I'm not sure exactly what you are getting at?

If you've got some suggestions about how "viewpathing" could work, I'd be
interested to hear them.
