Interestingly Janus Graph is now available - supporting TP3.

I'm not looking at creating a generalized syntax. Users will need to pick
which version of Titan/Gremlin they want to use and use the syntax for it. I'm
not sure what the timeline is for a full migration yet.

Thanks very much Jeffrey. Does the abstraction layer only need to serve
implementations of specific Gremlin commands in TP2 and 3, or are you aiming to
support generalized Gremlin syntax? And do you have an idea of the timeline
for a full migration? I'm keen to figure out how my team can get involved in
Atlas!

Jeffrey Hagelberg commented on ATLAS-610:

The primary motivation for this is to avoid breaking compatibility with users
that currently rely on the Titan 0.5.4/Tinkerpop 2 ecosystem. The idea is to
allow users to upgrade to the new version of Titan/Tinkerpop as they are able
to. It also allows users to upgrade Atlas to pick up some of the other new
features without requiring them to migrate to a new version of Titan/Tinkerpop.
We will definitely want to remove support for Titan 0.5.4/Tinkerpop 2 at some
point, though. Maintaining support for multiple versions of Titan/Tinkerpop is
definitely not the long term goal.

Charlie Harrison commented on ATLAS-610:

There are major changes between Titan 0.5.4 and 1.0.0 - the Tinkerpop version
changes 2 to 3, which to quote Stephen Mallette "represents a fairly major
upheaval". Remaining agnostic to the graph provider is a good idea, but
Tinkerpop provides the abstraction to do much (although not all) of this. Is
there a reason to continue support an outdated version of a specific provider?
