ApacheCon North America 2020, project participation

2019-10-01 Thread Rich Bowen
Hi, folks,

(Note: You're receiving this email because you're on the dev@ list for
one or more Apache Software Foundation projects.)

For ApacheCon North America 2019, we asked projects to participate in
the creation of project/topic specific tracks. This was very successful,
with about 15 projects stepping up to curate the content for their
track/summit/event.

We need to know if you're going to do the same for 2020. This informs
how large a venue we book for the event, how long the event runs, and
many other considerations.

If you intend to participate again in 2020, we need to hear from you on
the plann...@apachecon.com mailing list. This is not a firm commitment,
but we need to know if you're, say, 75% confident that you'll be
participating.

And, no, we do not have any details at all, but assume that it will be
in roughly the same calendar space as this year's event, ie, somewhere
in the August-October timeframe.

Thanks.

[DISCUSS] Short "marketing" video project

2019-10-01 Thread Andrija Panic
Hi guys,

this is a little project I've been experimenting last 2 weeks and is
**temporarily** located on the ShapeBlue channel.

https://youtu.be/k3uD69fajCU

Do you have any ideas where we can publish this, in more "official",
CloudStack way?

I was thinking about putting this on the main website
http://cloudstack.apache.org

Comments, objections, ideas?

Best,
Andrija

Re: Cloudstack rpm packaging issue

2019-10-01 Thread Darshana Sampath
Hi Rohit,
Again Thanks a lot for the information. That means at the moment we have to
include each cloudstack module in our project as a dependency? In that case
how can we start cloudstack client without jetty support. I tried to start
the jar file with java (java -jar cloud-client-ui-4.14.0.0-SNAPSHOT). But
it didnt work. Any advise?

The Github repository contains a suitable Dockerfile that we used with

Hi Darshana,

You're right we don't provide maven packages (yet), what you can do is download
an existing rpm package or build and install the jars locally in your maven
cache (if your project uses maven) and use those jars from a local location:
http://packages.shapeblue.com/cloudstack/upstream/centos7/4.13/

Hint: here's an example of a project that uses CloudStack jars as dependency:

cloud-init bug fix for VMs with mixed network interfaces

2019-10-01 Thread Riepl, Gregor (SWISS TXT)
Hi CloudStack community,

We're still stuck with cloud-init's problematic way of searching for a metadata
server: https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/issues/3557

Would you consider taking a look at our proposed fix and comment on it, so it
can be pushed ahead?
https://code.launchpad.net/~joschi36/cloud-init/+git/cloud-init/+merge/371807

The proposed fix uses the well-known data-server host name, that is
automatically provided by CloudStack VRs and should always point to a valid
metadata server.
This is similar to what other cloud platforms do and should be the documented
way to go.
The rest of the search code wasn't touched, so it still serves as a fallback
when data-server isn't available.

If you agree, I will prepare a cloudstack-documentation update that documents
this as the recommended way to fetch metadata.

Thanks,
Gregor

with jetty. Now I want to package it and deploy it on another machine.
Therefore I tried to build the rpm with "./package.sh --pack oss
--distribution centos7" . However it throws the below error.
error: Failed build dependencies:
maven >= 3.0.0 is needed by cloudstack-4.14.0.0-SNAPSHOT.el7.x86_64
RPM Build Failed
I have maven 3.6.2 running on my machine. Am I missing something here. I
have pasted below the CLI output for your reference.

[user@localhost packaging]$ ./package.sh --pack oss --distribution centos7

There is an apache user on Docker hub: https://hub.docker.com/u/apache
   Do you have access there?

I reopened the pull request, but we're still missing CI and built containers.
Without containers available on a public registry, kubernators won't be able
to use the provider.

I think you should also consider creating a first release, and also update
the deploy.yaml manifest accordingly.

@rhtyd As a short-term solution, you could simply push the Github repo to
https://hub.docker.com/u/apache (provided that you have access).
