Re: [pool] RC time

2023-09-17 Thread Phil Steitz
Thanks, all. Looks like the web site docs are way out of date as they
still refer to svn for sources. But based on Gilles' pointer (thanks!) it
looks like we are still using svn pub-sub to deploy artifacts. The old
scripts that I used to use may still actually work with slight mods, so I
am going to start there. I am not sure how to publish changes to either
the component or Commons web site though, since I am pretty sure the old
CMS is no longer operating. It looks like we are now just locally
generating sites and (svn) committing directly to
https://svn.apache.org/repos/infra/websites/production/commons/content. Is
that right?

That paragraph has been there for years; it is not a guarantee that
the referred documents actually contain "general instructions valid
for all components". What is (almost) certain is that the instructions
embedded in a component's source directory worked for the last
release of that component, and were probably updated during the
preparation of that release. [Those updates were made necessary
because the "general" instructions (and in the past there were several
sets of them) actually did *not* work for all components. We cannot
have "general" instructions until we agree and enforce a common
layout for all components.]

If the sh files in https://github.com/apache/commons-pool/tree/POOL_1_X are
no longer relevant we should remove them.

Which indicates:

the Commons RNG component. Note that more general instructions valid
for all components, including [rng], are available on the Apache Commons
main site: at *"https://commons.apache.org/releases/prepare.html
