[APACHECON] Proposed Science and Healthcare Track

2015-02-11 Thread Lewis John Mcgibbney
Hi Folks,

I went ahead and scanned the 235 or so proposals for anything Science and
Healthcare related in order to construct the proposed Science and
Healthcare Track Chris and myself intend to facilitate this year. So here
we go.
I want to make it absolutely clear that I have included one of my own

Exploring Apache Tika's Translate API to Enable Linguistic Analysis of
Scientific Metadata through Internationalizing NASA JPL’s Physical
Oceanographic Data Active Archive Centre, Lewis John McGibbney
   - Content extraction from images and video in Tika, Chris Mattmann

   -

Userfriendly workflows with Apache OODT, Tom Barber
   - Pharmacovigilance - Big Data for RealTime Drug Monitoring, Pei Chen
   - Redefining ETL pipelines with Apache technologies to accelerate
decision-making and execution for clinical trials, Eran Withana

Hi Alex,

My email went to private@incubator with the explicit request to forward it to
podlings. I'll re-send
it to the general list hoping that it doesn't drown in the flood of emails
there.

Cheers,

Uli

2015-02-11 Thread Ulrich Stärk
Hi Pierre,

the original email went bcc p...@apache.org so all PMCs should be aware of the
programme.

Great to hear that there is interest within Directory and OpenMeetings. There
are however no ideas
on our list from those two projects. It would be great if you could remind them
to record them.

Cheers,

Uli

Very fair.

Absolutely. Lets’ discuss off list, but we (the ATS community) will gladly
provide you any details for a slide or two that you need.

I think such a talk would be great, perhaps open an adjacent slot before
or after for a companion session.

I'd like this presentation already submitted to be a practical approach
for Apache httpd admins, though. I can talk at a high level about the
state of ATS and Tomcat and httpd on the feature level, at the start of
my session, but would like to spend most of the time on httpd specifics.

Since you are volunteering me, I trust I can go back to you for slide
details on the feature subset of ATS? And I should be able to round up
someone from Tomcat to do that feature slide(s). As far as httpd, I had
already planned a couple of meta slides on features at the beginning.

Because the Configuration API talk is new material (I presented it
ad hoc to a customer's dev teams, but not formalized yet) I'd be a bit
apprehensive about adding another full talk to my plate ahead of ACUS15.
If someone volunteers for such a new session, I'd backstop the presenter
on httpd material. And if someone steps up, the state of TLS at Apache
is broader than the servers, Apache HTTP Client and other components
would be similarly interesting to that audience, on a feature level.

Re: GSoC 2015 - very little interest so far

2015-02-11 Thread Alex B.
There also might be a lot of issues "submitted" in the last minute before
the deadline, as it happens with talk for ApacheCon CFP,
I.e by new projects from the Incubator who are interested but are just
starting they ASF journey and did not have much time to prepare beforehand
this year (like Zeppelin http://markmail.org/message/kcidofpyr36eb5br)

Might it be worth\appropriate posting a short notice on Incubator list too?

Hi Ulrich,

Don't know whether your call for action was also sent to PMC Members of the
projects (via private@), but there is interest in Apache Directory and
Apache OpenMeetings.

Re: GSoC 2015 - very little interest so far

2015-02-11 Thread Rob Vesse
Uli

Just did a quick run through for the Jena project, I found we had a bunch
of things labelled as gsoc but not as gsoc2015

In general there seems to be lots of open issues in JIRA which are
labelled gsoc and not labelled gsoc2015

http://s.apache.org/open-gsoc-not-2015

There are a few projects in particular that have a lot of issues labelled
so may be worth reaching out to those PMCs and see which (if any) they
still would consider as being valid for this years GSoC and getting them
to update them.

I will bug a few communities that I am involved in to remind them about
this though none of those communities are reflected in the above mentioned
link - they either already labelled stuff up or have nothing labelled up -
so I will bug the latter group

Really cool idea, Lewis!
A pity I can't attend...

Hi Folks,
For a while I have been participating in the W3C Data on the Web Best
Practice Work Group [0].
We have been looking for a place to have our Face to Face and I suggested
that we co-locate it at ApacheCon NA, in April.
I wanted to come to the community list to get some feedback on that
proposal.
What we would be looking to do is have around 20 people have a room for a
few hours one of the days (specifics to TBD).
A few people on the WG said they are thinking about buying tickets for
ApacheCon if they were able to kill two birds with the one stone and cut
their travel down.
What are the chances of something like this taking place?
Thanks in advance for any feedback positive or negative I am keen to get it
all.

[REQUEST] Add Lewis John McGibbney to ApacheCon NA 2015 Reviewers

2015-02-11 Thread Lewis John Mcgibbney
Hi Craig,
I *thought* I was already registered as a reviewer.
It turns out that I am having a bit of trouble navigating the webapp and
actually reviewing and content to pass judgement on it and to progress with
proposing a tentative agenda and schedule for the Apache Science and
Healthcare Track (which I would like to propose to the dev@community list
no later than tomorrow).
Can you please help me/walk me through how I can review.
Thanks
