+1, Apache Paimon (incubating) was born in HangZhou too.

I’d be happy to be part of it.

According to the definition here[1]:

"ALC comprises local groups of Apache (Open Source) enthusiasts, called an 'ALC
Chapter'.
There will be a single ALC chapter per town/city.

ALC is similar to Google Developer Group, Facebook Developer Circles, Mozilla
Reps.”

The existing ALCs are listed here[2]

My experiences with ALC chapter are mainly from attending offline events like
meetups and local conferences organized by ALC Beijing. I think it’s mainly
about creating a space(online and offline, especially offline) for local open
source contributors to meet in person, also as a way to promote The Apache Way.

2023-12-04 Thread Willem Jiang
The Local ASF chapters allow us to meet the local Apache people in
person. You can find more information here[1]
This way, local open-source enthusiasts could get together by hosting
events, publishing articles, making podcasts, etc. Sharing ASF's
successful stories within the local community inspired more developers
and talented college students to join open-source development.
During the pandemic, we held online events to promote the Apache
project and advocate the Apache Way and Open Source culture in China.

2023-12-04 Thread zhongming hua
+1, It is a very exciting thing for me, who has been following and
participating in the construction of Apache projects in Hangzhou for
many years.
As Jun Liu said, there are a lot of Apache projects incubated in
Hangzhou and entered Apache, and there are also a lot of contributions
and developers concerned about Apache.
I believe ALC Hangzhou can attract more contributors to join it, and I
am also very willing to participate in the construction of ALC
Hangzhou.

+1 This is exciting. Many ASF projects and contributors are from Hangzhou :)

+# What are "Good First Issues"?
+
+GFI or "Good First Issues" are a good way to start on an OSS project, and a
official Github initiative. Several GitHub repositories use this label to
encourage new contributors to start helping the project without the necessity,
in most cases, to contact one of the contributors in advance or to have a deep
knowledge of the project architecture or content.

Review Comment:
I'm not a fan of acronyms...would prefer that we just use Good First Issues,
in this relatively short document - but I don't think we have a defined
vocabulary or writing style for this site, so opinions might vary.

Re: [ALC] Request to establish ALC in Hangzhou, China

2023-12-04 Thread Willem Jiang
+1, I talked with Jun Liu after Community Over Code Asia 2023.
I shared the plan of Community Over Code Asia 2024, which will be held
in Hangzhou in the summer of 2024.
I can see he already knows about the efforts to start the new Chapter of ALC.
I'd be happy to be the mentor of ALC Hangzhou, and we can work closely
together for the Community Over Code Asia 2024.

Best regards,

Willem Jiang
