Re: UX / UI: New Splash Screens & Icons

2014-03-13 Thread Michael Brooks
Sidney, I like the flat Cordova logo design as well, but I have to agree
with points made by Jesse and Yohei.

The flat Cordova logo is an excellent chance for us to distinguish the
Mobile Spec and Hello World apps. I'm in favour of updating Mobile Spec to
use the flat logo. The new flat designs should also be added to the Artwork
section of the website, so that anyone can use it in a presentation or
revise it later.

However, that's where it should stop.

We desperately need an open source designer and if you're interesting in
helping, that would be awesome! The Cordova homepage, blog, and plugins
repository could really use a designer's input and attention. However, I
think the visual design should remain consistent and we should keep the
original Cordova logo for the homepage and Hello World app. It's consistent
and has no real problem aside from not jumping on the flat design
bandwagon. Your time and talent can have a far greater impact elsewhere.

2014-03-13 Thread Sidney Bofah
Hi Jessie,

actually the new versions are less in size, and of course all repo app assets
will be
replaced as well, that was the main reason for doing this. As of now, the blue
one will replace the mobile-spec
splash, and the light one the standard one.

RE: UX / UI: New Splash Screens & Icons

2014-03-12 Thread Yohei Shimomae
In an ideal world, I think every contribution whether it's a code or design
should solve a problem or make an improvement upon something. I like the new
flat design of the bot myself, but whether it's solving a problem or not will
be subjective. I didn't exactly design the bot with the "skeuomorphic" trend in
mind 2 years ago (nor was I trying to be trendy at all), but if it looks old
and outdated, then perhaps this new look will be an improvement.

I will also add that the real area I think we need UX/design contribution right
now is improving the visual hierarchy on the home page. Many new sections have
been added since it was originally designed and I think it could use some
makeover.

Cheers,
Yohei

Re: UX / UI: New Splash Screens & Icons

2014-03-12 Thread Sidney Bofah
No problemo, seems fair.

I will then remove the current version of the bot - i strongly prefer it over
adding a third variant.
Replacing the current skeuomorphic one (with the glare effects etc, not the
outline logo) with the new,
“flat” version shown on the splash screen demos. It would be a small facelift
fitting
the iOS7/Holo/Metro age. See the dark and light versions below:

Thanks Sidney,
You can check out the website using SVN using the instructions here:
http://wiki.apache.org/cordova/UpdatingTheWebsite

You don't have Apache Committer privileges yet (that's another topic) -- so
your access is read-only for now -- but you can email us a patchfile and
one of the committers can review and integrate it in.

Done! I’m an official committer now. Thanks for the guides.

Also, the idea with mobile-spec is good. Will follow that approach now.

Quick question: Is there a repo for the website, the underlying artwork (i have
source PSD files that
should be in a VCS) etc? Where can i start?

Kind regards,
Sidney

2014-03-09 Thread Sidney Bofah
Dear team,

As this is my first post here, a short intro: I'm a project manager from a
Berlin-based, larger development company and a Hybrid/HTML5 evangelist.

I'd like to contribute something here and as a first-off, i reworked
Cordovas' dated splash screen and icons and created 2 variants. I think the
proposal fares well on all platforms.

Of course, source PSDs with auto-export slices for all native sizes &
platforms will be made available. Which one do you like more?

Best Regards, Sidney

Which one do you like more? White or blue?
