IP clearance status for dubbo-spring-boot-project and dubbo-ops

2019-01-30 Thread Huxing Zhang
Hi All,

We have completed IP clearance for Dubbo project before[0].
Beside Dubbo project, we are maintaining two side projects which will
be released periodically.

* dubbo-ops
* dubbo-spring-boot-project

I've reviewed the IP clearance status, and summarized them as [1] and [2].

In general, most of the contribution happens when these two project
are transferred to ASF.
There are 4 contributors who made contribution before the transfer for
spring-boot-project, and 3 are Dubbo committers, the contribution of
the left 1 contributor is trivial, so I think ICLA is not required.
There are only 1 contributors who made contribution before the
transfer for dubbo-ops project, and he is a Dubbo committer.

Overall I think everything looks all good, and no further steps should be taken.

Please comment if you have any concern.

The release candidate should be pushed to
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/incubator/dubbo/spring-boot-project/,
and after the vote has passed, we can move it to
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/release/incubator/dubbo/spring-boot-project/

Re: [VOTE]: Release Apache Dubbo Spring Boot Project (Incubating) 2.7.0

2019-01-30 Thread Huxing Zhang
Hi,

I see the version has been update to 2.7.0.
Personally I think this is better because it aligns with the Dubbo
version, which make user easier to figure out.
My question is how should we deal with Spring boot 2.x. and 1.x, does
this release contains support for both versions?

In the previous release, we have released 0.2.1 for spring-boot 2.x
and 0.1.2 for spring-boot 1.x.
Since we have Dubbo 2.7.x and 2.6.x, and Spring-boot 2.x and 1.x. I
will be difficult to maintain 2 * 2 versions.
So my suggestion is support spring-boot 2.x and 1.x in one code base.

What do you think?

2019-01-30 Thread Huxing Zhang
Hi,

Just a quick check.
Since the package is renamed to org.apache, we need to deploy the
artifacts to ASF staging repository and include the url in the vote
email.
I also found that we should remove netty in the NOTICE file.

Jason,

Totally agree with you on this point. We should focus less on grammar sugar
but focus more on make the code clean, for say: divide long method into
shorter methods, better naming, or better doc, or even better design.

But on the other hand, if someone from the community shows enthusiasm for
updating code with new sugar, I will not object to the effort as long as it
doesn't hurt readability, after all it is low hanging fruit :)

What I propose is we should gather all possible ideas and group them in one
project on GitHub [1], like I said in my previous email. It is critical to
make the code clean as much as possible in my opinion. It deserves one
dedicated project to track all ideas. By doing this, the community can also
understand the current focuses are.

So my question is, should we init a project focusing on clean code, while
the purpose doesn't limit to grammar sugar?

-Ian.
