Re: Re: Concerns with the Community

2019-08-22 Thread Ovilia
Hi Dave,

Thank you for pointing out these concerns.

We have already seriously realized ECharts' issues and are acting to
address them with some more detailed changes and hopefully, help us get
back on the right track to getting graduated.

1. Mailing list activity
The mailing list is not active right now. Here are some changes we did and
are going to do:
a. I've just added mailing list and dev@echarts.apache.org in the Readme
file of GitHub and in the GitHub bot reply.
b. We are going to discuss our developing plans of each release in the
mailing list, and ask the community to join the discussion through Twitter
and other social media, starting right next week.
c. Technical questions should also be discussed more in the mailing list to
reach for a better solution.

2. Website
Our only concern is CDN speed now. I've opened a ticket in Jira.
Once this problem has been fixed, we will redirect ASAP.
I should follow this problem more closely and push it when necessary.

3. Name search
We will complete the name search within this month.

4. Releases
Currently, it takes about 3-4 months for us to release a version. From the
next month, we will plan what issues to fix and what features to add and
control the release period to be about one month.

5. Better communication with mentors
We should let mentors and the community know more about what have done and
what we are doing.

Your continuous guidance and mentorship are critical to our ongoing
learning and improvement.

Thanks Dave.

1. We are sure to discuss more in the mail list. Sorry for that.

2. Currently, the loading speed on some CDN nodes in China is acceptable
and some not. We don't know exactly, but from my observation, the speed in
Shanghai is quick and the speed in Beijing is slow, where
https://echarts.apache.org/en/option.html takes more than 30 seconds to
load.

Concerns with the Community

2019-08-12 Thread Dave Fisher
Hi -

I have several concerns about the podling.

(1) There was absolutely no discussion about the report on any of the mailing
lists. There really is little discussion on dev@echarts about anything. Apache
Way governance requires that there be discussion here on dev@echarts. This is
how an Apache project is open and global.

(2) "Redirecting echarts.baidu.com to echarts.apache.org. Because we found some
speed problem of Apache CDN in China, we haven't done the redirecting job yet.
We will do more test and ask for help if necessary.” KAM and I both worked to
help you with this. It’s been a couple of months. If there were problems making
the change then they need to be discussed on the mailing list. You have to let
the community know what’s happening.

(3) “Nearing Graduation”. Until there is significant improvement in discussing
the project on the dev@ mailing list you are not close to graduation. Until we
can see good community building efforts you are not close.

(4) Podling Name Search issue is here:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PODLINGNAMESEARCH-153 Reply here if you
need mentor assistance with it.

Best Regards,
Dave
