Peter Kriens commented on FELIX-528:

Yes, I should have reacted earlier, sorry. I looked at it when it was
registered and I was not sure if liked the idea in the first place,
nor did it seems to have priority because it can already be achieved by adding
more directories to watch.

1. One we can only make it backward compatible by adding a flag (I usually have
a nested folder "unused")
2. Multiple folders are already supported with Configuration Admin. E.g. adding
a simple text file in your watched directory
can already add a new directory to be watched, ad infinitum.
3. Nested directories can easily be a very large set, it is hard to see the
scope.

I like to keep things as simple as possible, this kind of stuff bloats quickly,
however small each feature might be. Now I am not
the boss so if you get some other people that feel strong about it we can
discuss it further.

> Currently FileInstall just supports "flat" jar-Files as bundles in its load
> folder.
> How about supporting (nested) folders?
> This way, you could:
> 1. just drop an arbitrary folder structure and fileinstall would install all
> bundles inside.
> 2. you could enable/disable entire "bundle-sets" with:
> 2a. in/move it out of the folder
> 2b. rename the folder with prefix that means "unrecognized folder"
> Just a thought..

I know Peter is trying to get to these issues, but has been terribly busy.

Does ANYONE care about this NEW (for felix) component anymore ?

I mean, there are some rather trivial patches flying arround Jira in this
component now since nearly two months.

Since nobody commits or rejects those patches, i don't see chances for bigger
enhancements to be added as well.
So, it would be nice if somebody could clarify the future of this component in
felix ?

Otherwise i would suggest other place for this component with lower barriers of
entry to make things happen. (?)

FELIX-529 contains this one as well as some other (small) "so to say"
improvements.
