Installing AIR on modern Linux machines is already hard, and only going
to get harder.
By contrast Java and Ant are available ready packaged in every major
distribution.

Hi,

Tom C has reported that he's successfully used the ant script on Linux to
install Apache Flex 4.12, and has recommended that we go back to only
creating InstallApacheFlex.dmg and InstallApacheFlex.exe files and Linux
users will be instructed to use Ant.

Please voice any objections ASAP.

Hi,

Are we 100% certain that Flex Devs want this? I think we should be asking wider
than just the dev list as it effects users of the SDK and people have be
critical re changes in Linux support in the past.

-1 from me until that is done.

Hi,

OK, will send poll on users@.
Thanks.

IMO for something are important as this it probably shouldn't be a LAZY vote as
we are voting to remove/stop release a piece of software/support for a platform.

While we are providing an alternative means to instal it may not be suitable
for everyone and it hasn't been voted on or released yet.

Apache Flex Installer on Linux

2013-06-17 Thread Justin Mclean
Hi,

Got the installer to compile and run to completion on Linux. It need some
improvements around installation of the deb package - anyone have experience
with this?

The only other issue is the application xml file contains 3.4 namespace when
Linux needs to 2.6 one, I guess the ant script could change it to 2.6 as it
changes a few other things but is there a better way to do this?

Thanks,
Justin
