Most of the times, a final version comes from the marketing project. But
it is often a surprise when and by who.

3.2 will come out just after the new year and I do not want to spend
Christmas holidays localizing.

And we don't like working at night too much ;-)

Re: [l10n-dev] Re: Re: New home for downloading language packs

2009-11-16 Thread Marcus Lange

Hi all,

both websites are now online.

Best regards

Marcus

Marcus Lange wrote:

Hi all,

when there are no further comments, then I'll start to bring both sites
to the new location at "download.openoffice.org/other.html" and
"download.openoffice.org/langpack.html".

Thanks

Marcus

Hi,

because IA64 and Linux PPC builds are only available for English US
and no other language, I've moved the columns to a separate table
below the first one. This will save a bit space to the right hand side.

Best regards

Marcus

Marcus Lange wrote:

Hi,

I've done some further changes:

- Placed all notes to another website, so that the tables with
download links will come a bit higher.

- Furthermore I think it is better to name the download links as
"Download" instead of the version number. Because the normal user
will search for links that provide the actual download. So when
naming it in this way it's easier to find and understand. Therefore
I've named the links with the 3.1.1 builds with "Download" and
(re)introduced the "Latest release" column.

- I've extended the concept also to the full installation builds:
http://download.openoffice.org/next/other_all.html

Best regards

Marcus

Marcus Lange wrote:

Hi all,

as an alternative I've created a langpack website with all files
listed in 2 tables:

http://download.openoffice.org/next/langpack_all.html

Maybe we can agree on this as commpromise?

Best regards

Marcus

Marcus Lange wrote:

Hi all,

as promised I thought about a new structure and have created the
following websites to ease the download of RC builds:

http://download.openoffice.org/next/other_rc.html
http://download.openoffice.org/next/langpack_rc.html

Please have a look if the names of the languages are correct. It's
not easy to find the correct wording for so many, so please bear
with me. ;-)

Keep in mind that this is just a test to show you how it could look
like. It's not yet the final version (e.g., all builds that are
already released have to be deleted from here, of course).

Once we have a final state I would update the index page
(http://download.openoffice.org/next), so that both new websites
can be found via links and make some announcements.

Please tell me what you think about this.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards

Marcus

Hi all,

I think I haven't taken into account the many differences with
builds, testing and NL communities. So, I'm sorry if anyone feels
offend. This was not my intension or to ignore the situation.

I'll think about what could be done to provide the builds to the
users (tested or not, released or not). Because it's a very high
number this will be not easy. And take into account that someone
has to maintain this monster of list (7 platforms with 90+
languages). ;-)

Just wanted to take the chance to answer here early before my
absence the next week. Therefore please don't expect to have a
fast solution.

Re: [l10n-dev] New Features in 3.2

2009-11-16 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hello, thanks,

I know both documents you linked to,

but I am looking for the official "New features" document that is prepared
for every release and is very useful for promotion of the new version, so we
translate it always into Slovenian and put it on the sl.openoffice.org and
post a link to it into the announcement of the localized new version.

I was just wondering if that document is already finished or if somewhere
its work-in-progress version is posted, but obviously it is not done yet.

3.2 will come out just after the new year and I do not want to spend
Christmas holidays localizing.

[l10n-dev] TESTING: L10n CWS build / lang pkgs

2009-11-16 Thread Rafaella Braconi

Dear All,

this is a reminder that l10n TCM testing has been extended till November
26th http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/OOoRelease32.

Builds are available at:
http://ooo.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/cws/upload/localization/localization37/

If you encounter any critical issue during testing, please communicate
this via email or issue immediately. If you encounter some quality
issues that you can fix and you want to integrate in the final version
please do let us know, either commenting the issue you used to submit
the translated files for 3.2 or by adding this information to this issue:

http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=106825

I also would like to encourage you to check open issue submitted for
your languages and either fix them, comment them or close them - if they
are not applicable any more. The number of l10n issues is very high and
it's important that we get realistic statistics of how good or bad the
l10n products are.

[l10n-dev] Some useful reminders about our online tools and processes

2009-11-16 Thread Charles-H. Schulz

Hello,

I thought it would be useful for our new members and less new members
to know that we use tools inside the OpenOffice.org project that help
drive the quality of their work and streamline the distribution of
OpenOffice.org in their language.

If you look at the http://l10n.openoffice.org page, you will see that
there are many links, some of them pointing to some tools we use.
Localization tools such as pootle are not mandatory (see the
localization process pages for more information) but we would really
like you to use the tool called TCM. What's TCM? It's a tool that
automates certain tests, and it's easy to use! It makes your work
easier and improves the quality of our builds.

Now let's take a quick look at the QA project (as in Quality
Assurance): http://qa.openoffice.org . As a localization maintainer or
as a native-language project lead *you have to test the quality of your
localized build* .
We have tools aside the TCM tests for this. One of them is Issue Zilla,
but what we work with is Quaste
(http://quaste.services.openoffice.org/) and it helps streamline
everyone's QA operations. Plus it's online so it is easily accessible
if you have broadband.

The other tool I would like to tell you about is the QATrack. What the
QATrack does in a few words is that it lists the status of all the
localized builds on each platform. Then it's easier for us to include
your localization in our mirrors, since we know about what you're
doing. However, QAtrack does not work by itself. It requires *you* to
fill out the details and provide the right informations on a regular
basis. There is no wrong answer there, if you're not ready it's not
that bad, but the important thing is that the community developers and
users know about it.

Last but not least, please DO NOT FORGET TO PUT A LINK TO THE DOWNLOAD
MIRROR of both BINARIES & SOURCES for your localized builds!

If you lack server space or have no server at all, please feel free to
contact me or the native-lang list for help.

Thank you,

Charles-H. Schulz.

[l10n-dev] New Features in 3.2

2009-11-16 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hello,

I wonder if the description of new features in 3.2 (the kind it was for 3.1:
http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/features/3.1/) is ready or maybe in some
beta or RC version to start translating.

Thanks,
m.
