The PO files for OpenOffice.org translation can be formed with different options for handling duplicates, KDE style comments being one of them. I was using Pootle for nearly all of yesterday afternoon and evening (I'm UTC +1030), and nearly all of that time the response time was 2-3 seconds. I keep three tabs open in different PO files and switch between them: that means no waiting. ;) So, if we were using Pootle at the same time, and we were getting different response times, that sounds more like local network problems than anything else. Where is the OpenOffice.org Pootle server located? I'm in South Australia. I find sometimes I get better response time from Japan, for example, than people do in Europe. Only very occasionally, probably three or four times in that period (2008-02-02 [1300-2400]+1030), did Pootle slow down, so that I had to go away and do something else while it was talking to itself. I've asked the Pootle devs about these odd slow-downs before, and they say _one_ per day might be the regular system maintenance, but there shouldn't be more than one. So we should ask them. :) More details on keeping more than one tab open in Pootle: this may not work for everyone, but I find there are always other things I can be doing, like searching through the interface to compare strings with those quoted in the Help, and reviewing already translated files. Since we still have several Help files with untranslated/fuzzy strings, I can also work on three of those at once. However, if you need to spend your allotted time on only one file, you may find it more effective to download the file and work offline. Pootle is really designed to distribute the translation task, not concentrate it. It allows you to choose your translation method, provides the current stats and updated files, and overwrites/merges your file when you've finished working, if you've chosen to translate offline.
