Well, it is ASF as a whole that is a mentor organization and the gsoc2017 label cuts across all the projects at once. So, a project that applies Solr expertise to other ASF projects is to me still within ASF-mentor space. Hi Alexandre , I think its a great idea to have someone look into the usability part as a GSOC project. However I feel we should define this task somewhat before people start applying. The student should not get caught up in a Jira which is attracting lots of discussions from the devs . Hi Alexandre, I'm planning to volunteer as well. I added LUCENE-7745 as a potential area of exploration that I'm interested in (but not much knowledge about GPGPUs, apart from trying out some basic examples and writing some simple programs on CUDA and OpenCL). Unfortunately, the only two GSoC mentors we seem to have this year is David Smiley and myself, and we each are already signed up to mentor one student, and there's at least two other students expressing interest in different issues. So it looks like we have too many students and too few mentors.
