There's a lot of material there. One thing that jumped out at me that I'd like to highlight was the phrase: "OpenDocument is a choice that let's you choose." I think we ought to use that or a variation somehow. It is a good phrase, and it's the slogan for the OpenDocument Fellowship, http://opendocumentfellowship.org/ (but without the superfluous apostrophe) Cheers, Jean - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Anything in the works to have buttons for supporters of Open Office? If you have it already, please direct me in the right direction. Peace, There are a number of buttons and banners already created. Some are available at http://ooodocs.sourceforge.net/graphics/banners/index.html but only the banners that do not specifically refer to version 1.0 should be used. There are others that have been created and will be made easily accessible once I figure out how to use the CVS to do so. For the moment, you can reach them in Ussezilla. Create an account at www.OpenOffice.org then log in and go to Issue #55665 (http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=55665). In theory, I have access to do this, but I don't know how. *blush* http://marketing.openoffice.org/art/ A word of caution: some of these were designed to be templates for banners and buttons, and not for actual use (they have things like, "Here comes the marketing slogan!"), so make sure you pay attention to what they say before you link them. Re: [Marketing] Turku abandons plans for Linux and OOo
Interesting. I should have checked my link before I sent it. The newspaper article from 2004-11-19 at the Hufvudstadsbladet seems to have disappeared. A search in Google for article's title, "Sdp-politiker risar valet av Jungner" bring up in cache completely different content. We have known since the late 90's that MS has been unable to compete on technical merit and seen as a result the emphasis on marketing and the attempt to prevent anyone else from doing so either. Since then the effort has moved through lobbying on to direct involvment in politics, such as we see in recent riders attached to Massachusetts legislation. OOo does have the advantage if decisions can be steered back to technical rather than ideological factors. OOo also has an advantage if selection processes can be kept moving forward and not allowed to decend into bickering and delay from which MS benefits. MSO 2003 in particular has a lot of potential problems that should, according to privacy law, eliminate it from consideration for public agencies. Nor have the problems or even capability of the DRM which is part of MSO 2003 been enumerated. -Lars Lars Nooden ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Software patents kill innovation and harm all Net-based business. Re: [Marketing] Turku abandons plans for Linux and OOo
Thanks for the links. That's sad news that I've been expecting for some time there in Turku (aka Åbo) and also an indication about how the MS political movement might react to threats in other regions such as Massachusetts. The press in most countries, unfortunately, has been a little more than passively supporting the M$ agenda to varying degrees, though nothing outright active enough to call them on. It's a much harder situation next door in Sweden where the ideology has taken a much stronger grip. For context, YLE is largely responsible for all of Finnish broadcasting. That's not quite accurate, but close enough. A disturbing bit of background on the Jungner case is that some very experienced, very qualified candidates were passed over for the job and the appointment of Jungner was apparently steamrolled in at an odd time. Somewhat more details here: http://www.hbl.fi/cgi-bin/mediaweb?Newsp=hbl&Depa=politik&Date=041119&Model=juttu.html&Story=07345781.txt In order for OOo to prevail in governments and state agencies in more than a niche market, it may be necesssary to address the issue of "kotiryssä" in governments. For example, Norway and others have at least one each highly placed former exec or lobbyist. There are also the offical ambassadors, whose role is less a subject of speculation: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/01/21/ms_nto/ -Lars Lars Nooden ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Software patents kill innovation and harm all Net-based business. [Marketing] Templates
When you open MS Office, you are presented with a wide range of templates and wizzards that make the building of useful pages easy. In OO we could use a resume page in writer, financial calculations in calc, presentation designs in impress and asset control in Base. The more prebuilt templates the easier to use this is and this will increase your install base by work of mouth advertising. Rodney Wise
